wrestlers in rainbow color & textures dump during play

EDIT: after about an hour of following various tutorials about setting up p64 and the rice video plugin, i've finally got textures to load. however, that lead to other problems.

wrestlers now have proper textures, however their overall builds are iridescent/rainbow colored. also, although matches start out fine, eventually the arena drops out entirely after a few seconds play. i've read through other topics about alternate configurations/using the default video plugin, but the rice video option is the only way i've gotten the mods to load at all.

in case i'm not making any sense, i've included screen caps. i'm running windows 7, p64 build 2.1 compatible with wxp service pack 2, and rice video build 6.1.4.

again, i searched the forums for solutions - and unless i'm not choosing the proper terms - nothing seemed to pop up. i apologize if this has been troubleshot before, hopefully this isn't just another duplicate topic.

I've seen that rainbow problem before but for the life of me I can't remember the fix. I think you're best bet would be to get Project64 2.1, I dunno if there's a big difference between 2.0 n 2.1 but I know some use 2.1 as do I. I did see you said you're using build 2.1 but the screenshot said 2.0 so I wanted to clear that up. Now unlike 1.6 you don't need the rice plugin with 2.1, the default plugin actually is a lot better than rice.

""Instructions: Place the 'WWF No Mercy" file into your texture folder, place the cht. file in your 'Config' folder, and place the fla. file in your 'Save' folder.""--Quote taken from CBV's Showdown64 faq,

So step by step is...

1.Open the Project64 2.1 folder.
2.Place the WWF folder in the texture folder you find inside Project64 2.1 folder.(Sometimes you gotta run project64 first before the texture folder will show up, first time only though)
3.Put the fla file in the save & the cht in config.
4.Run Project64
5.Go to Options>Settings>Directories and make sure on the bottom the Texture Directory is set to the Project64 2.1 texture folder.
6.While the option window is still up go to plugins and make sure the default plugin for 2.1 is selected. ""Jabo's Direct3D8 1.7.0.57-ver5""

You should be good to go after all that. On step 5 though, if the textures don't load up, end the emulation and go back to where you set the directory before and select the WWF No Mercy folder as the location of textures. It happened to me, I picked just the texture folder and nothing loaded up so I had to go back and make the WWF folder itself the directory.

Goodluck

EDIT: Out of my own curiosity I went dead forum hopping to look for the solution to rainbow wrestlers. All of these tips are for the rice plugin.

1.switch to OpenGL.
2.Under "Current Game Options" should be the "Normal Blender" and "Normal Combiner" boxes. Try the different combinations. Different graphics cards need different combinations for it to work.
3.Make sure you are using the latest graphics card drivers(Might need to check for an update on yours)
4.Try ""Normal blender: Tick"" & ""Normal combiner: blank"" when doing step 2.

decided to start from scratch, new install, following your instructions exactly.

you were right about my p64 version being out of date (even though i downloaded "2.1", the actual install was outdated), but using the default plugin was a no-go. for whatever rage-inducing reason, the textures will not load, no matter where i point the directory. i tried choosing "dumping all textures" within the video options, but that only resulted in a "textures-save" folder being created. i even tried naming the directory and rom identically (the textures-save sub folder for the game wasn't just "wwf no mercy"), but still no change.

the only way i'm able to load the proper textures is again by using the rice plugin. you were right again with fiddling with the blending settings - and everything looked great! the "normal combiner" is definitely the problem when it comes to the rainbow colors. BUT everything STILL drops out after a few moments of play. every combination of options doesn't seem to affect this issue.

video card is up to date, no cheats are selected.

thanks again for the help. any other possibilities that i may be missing? i'm not sure why the default jabo plugin doesn't seem to work for me, but perfect for everyone else. seems like if i were able to get the textures to load with that, i wouldn't be having issues.

being able to see everything is awesome and frustrating. arg, i'm so close!

Hmm I've never had the problem with arenas dumping like that. Most arenas that have been textured require cheats to work though.

Thats how mine is set up. I'm loading in the WWE save you're trying to play. See if I have any issues. I played it flawlessly on 1.6 but haven't tired 2.1.

Okay after trying it with my normal settings the textures aren't loading. Here's where the part comes up I myself don't fully understand but it seems to be the reality of the situation. I play Showdown64, that save only works on higher versions of project64 like 2.1. Like some of the other saves were made with 1.6 so its possible they only work with 1.6.

Heres a link to project64 1.6 with rice video plugs already set up. https://sites.google.com/site/tikkootarun/pj64.rar?attredirects=0 my homie put it up years ago n its still saving me some time lol. After you unrar it follow this Project64 1.6 faq: http://s4.zetaboards.com/Old_Skool_Reunion?topic=8927706/1/. If you follow that step by step you should be playing in no time. 1.6 is a little different though, so the cht file goes in the main folder, also in the main folder you're gonna need to make a new folder and name it ""Save"" without the quotations, that's where you'll put the mpk n fla. The rest is well covered in the link above. Hope this helps you.

on a side note, I don't think rice gets along with 2.1 lol the default plugin is actually better than rice but like I said I guess it all matters on how the save was made. Good luck man

EDIT: Almost forgot man, the dumping textures option isn't useful unless you're trying to modify the game.

Mess with your blender options. That's the problem.

running it on the 1.6 version had no issues at all! thank you for all the help.

i messed around with as many blending options as i could in 2.1 and still had the arena & characters drop out during play. the weird thing is, only the wrestler sprites change in 2.1 - all of the menu systems don't change except for the text. i just didn't notice this until using the older version.

i'll have to give showdown64 a shot and see if i have any of the same problems. it may just be the newer p64 doesn't like the older hack.

anyway, thanks again!

Showdown is the only save currently made for 2.1, it was made with it in mind. It won't work with older versions.

i meant i wanted to try it with 2.1 and see if i had any of the same problems - which i didn't! looks and plays great. not entirely sure why the soty save was having such issues running on 2.1.
