Dozens of wrestling and sports news websites are reporting a story which is trending on Twitter and on Facebook.
The International Olympic Committee has apparently voted to keep Wrestling as a sport until 2024.
Wrestling has featured in every Olympic games, including the Ancient Greek games. But earlier this year, the IOC voted to remove the sport as one of the permanent features of the event. This means that it must be held to a vote to stay included every 10 years.
Wrestling was due to feature for the last time at the 2016 games in Brazil. This vote will ensure that is also features in the 2020 and 2024 games. The next vote is scheduled for 2022.
Many of the greatest professional wrestlers won major amateur wrestling competitions before moving onto the WWE. These include people like Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, Charlie Haas, Jack Swagger, Antonio Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler. But the most prominent one is Kurt Angle, who won the Olympic gold medal in 1996.
