Mabel won the tournament, even though Shawn Michaels and Undertaker were both in it. He and Yokozuna crushed Undertaker's face.
9. Kurt Angle
Angle took a break from his losing streak to win the KOTR tournament in his rookie year. He engaged in a fling with Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, thus pushing the end of the McMahon-Helmsley era. He would win the WWE Championship just before the end of his rookie year. He lost the first PPV match of 2000 when he passed out to a newcomers choke hold. But he won the final PPV main event of the year, beating Undertaker, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock in a Hell In A Cell match. He managed to reach the finals of the next KOTR tournament.
8. Edge
All 4 members of the same stable, all heels, reached the semi-finals. Edge would win the Intercontinental Championship 3 times before the year's end. He also unified the WCW United States Championship with the IC gold. He would win most of his matches during his year as the KTOR.
7. Brock Lesnar
Lesnar became the second person to win the King of the Ring, WWE Championship, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania main event within one year. Specifically, it was Lesnar's rookie year.
6. Harley Race
Race would be recognised as "King" for the rest of his career. He retained the KOTR title for over 2 years, despite others winning the title. He rarely lost between winning the title and leaving the WWE.
5. Bret Hart
Hart is the second man to win the KOTR twice. His first reign started within 2 weeks of winning his the Intercontinental Championship. He became the first man to win KOTR, Royal Rumble, WWE Championship and WrestleMania Main Event.
4. Triple H
Triple H ended a year of humiliation by winning the KOTR. He would win the Intercontinental and Eurpean Championships within the next year. He also founded the DeGeneration-X tag team and stable.
3. King Booker
Two months after winning the title, Booker T became the first African American to hold a major championship (Rock was half African-Canadian with US citizenship) in the WWE.
2. Randy Savage
Savage won a tournament to win the KOTR, and then won a tournament to become WWE Champion at the following WrestleMania. He won the title for the 2nd time, and became one of the most succesful heels in the company.

Austin's victory is credited to launching his own main-event career and the attitude era.
