WWE.com’s Top 50 Tag Teams
Over the last 5 days, WWE.com has published a list of the top 50 Tag Teams in WWE history.
Recent lists have caused upset amongst wrestling fans due to the obvious bias towards certain superstars and legends, and obvious bias against current TNA wrestlers. But this article actually acknowledges these controversies, and offered a detailed explanation as to why this list was compiled this way.
<blockquote class='quote\\_blockquote'><dl><dt>The Rules</dt><dd> </dd></dl><div>
1. Only tag teams that were active in the WWE are acknowledged. So teams like ‘Sting & Lex Luger’, ‘The Motor City Machine Guns’ or ‘Harlem Heat’ do not qualify.
2. The list only acknowledges achievements within the WWE. So while ‘Public Enemy’ had major success in the NWA, WCW and ECW, none of that was acknowledged. Only their small handful of victories in the WWE in 1999 was considered.
3. Where possible, all tag teams must have only two members. For stables that had more than 2 members, only the two that made their most significant tag team were considered. If the ‘Spirit Squad’ had made the list, only the efforts of ‘Kenny & Mikey’ would have counted.
4. The list considers numerous factors, not just win-loss records and title reigns. The list also considers the impact that the team has made and their general popularity. So while ‘Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel’ won the titles 3 times, and ‘Kaientai’ never did, the popularity of ‘TAKA Michinoku and Sho Funaki’ put both teams on level pegging.
5. There is some bias. Some teams have rated higher than others simply because the people who made the decisions like them. ‘Tony Garea and Dean Ho’ and ‘Too Cool’ were given as examples of teams that were ranked higher than they should have been.

The group that decided on this list were mainly journalists who work on the WWE.com website and WWE Magazine. But they were assisted by former wrestler Matt Striker, and Hall-of-Famer Jim Ross.
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>Interesting Notes From The List…</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">
*Fans have criticised the exclusion of ‘Owen Hart & Yokozuna’. In fact, neither man is named on the list anywhere.
* The inclusion of Shawn Michaels and Triple H at such a high position has also annoyed fans. D-Generation X’s biggest impact happened between 1998 and 2000, while Michaels was inactive from wrestling.
* WWE.com insists that only “chauvinism†could deny ‘Team LayCool’ a place on the list. But including them on the list meant overlooking the fact that they were not impactful, or a tag team.
* The Moondogs are the only team on the list that have more than 2 members.
* Billy Gunn is the only individual to appear on the list 3 times. He was a member of ‘Billy & Chuck’, ‘The Smoking Gunns’ and ‘The New Age Outlaws’.
*Rob Van Dam, Rey Mysterio, Batista and Steve Austin were all left off the list.
* Shawn Michaels, Edge, Kane and John Morrison each appear on the list twice.
