The WWE's official website and social media accounts have announced that one of their champions has sustained an injury and has been forced to surrender their title.
The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury during a live show in Dublin, Ireland. While there are conflicting reports about what the injury really is, it is known to be bad. Every report claims that a muscle has been torn from the bone. The injury occurred when Seth landed badly after a diving attack.
This means that there will definitely be a new champion crowned at Survivor Series. A title match will take place, but there are no other details at this moment. The only thing that is known for sure is that Roman Reigns will be in this match. Reigns was announced as Rollins' opponent 10 days ago.
It should also be noted that the WWE has only announced one other match so far, and this is a Divas match. This means that the WWE is free to make a major reshuffle between now and the PPV.
Rollins had been champion since WrestleMania 31. After taking a loss to Randy Orton, he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract and joined the title match between Reigns and Brock Lesnar part-way through. This gamble saw Rollins walk out with the title, and he has been champion since. During the course of this year, Lesnar, John Cena and Sting have all picked up injuries during title matches against Rollins.
The worse new for Rollins is that he is expected to be out of action for 6-9 months. This means that the chances of him being able to return in time for WrestleMania 32. Randy Orton recently received a similar diagnosis on his newest shoulder injury. This couldn't have come at a worse time for Rollins as management are looking for reliable stars to build the company around. With Orton out of action and Cena taking time off, this was the perfect opportunity for someone to impress management.
