Here's a tutorial on how to texture mod using only Photoshop.
First of all you need to know how to dump textures.
To find out how to dump textures go HERE.
The following will be continued from the the last step from the dumping tutorial.
Select the textures that you want to edit. Go to "Edit" then click on "Copy" (or Right click "Copy")
After copying the textures that you want to edit you will need to paste them in the following folder.
".../Plugin/hires_texture/WWF No Mercy" which is located in the root of the emulator (Where the emulator is installed).
Once the textures have been pasted open them up with Photoshop to edit.
The textures can be increase by a maximum of 400% to include as much detail as possible.
To change the size of the image go into "Image" and then click on "Image Size".
A box will open which will allow you to adjust the size of the image.
Make sure that "Constrain Proportions" is ticked. Click on the drop down box where it says "Pixels" and change it to "Percent". Enter the value "400". This will increase the size of the image by 400%.
The image will change size and you are given more space to make the textures more detailed.
Edit the image to your liking using as many layers as necessary. Once you have finished editing the image click go to "File" and then click on "Save As".
The save box will appear. Change the format to "png". Untick the "As a Copy" if it is not grayed out.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure that the filename does not contain "copy" at the end of it before the .png extension.
Click on "Save".
Make sure that you are saving the file in the correct location.
Another box will open. This box is VERY IMPORTANT. This will determine weather the texture will be compatible or not. It determines the png options. Make sure that "Interlaced" is selected. If you do not then it will save as a 24bit png which we do not want as the Rice plugin will not recognize it. With it set to "Interlaced" it will save as a 32bit png which will be compatible with the Rice Plugin.
Here is an alternative method posted by Dochappy to save as 32 bit png.
ok this is what I do to make sure everything saves right using photoshop. Once you have your graphic done do this .
1 . Flatten all the layers
2. now with the main layer active . hit CTRL + A now hit CTRL + C basically all we did there was select the entire graphic and copied it to the clipboard.
3. Now go to the channels pallete and create a new channel . Click on it to make it active and hit CTRL +V now you've pasted the graphic into a new channel
4. go back to the layers pallette and click on the main layer . go to select - deselect. now go to save as and chose .png and make sure copy isn't in the name
The texture edit is complete. Now to test it. Load up the rom and check that the texture has been replaced.
We can see here that it has
