Hair textures.

I am just wondering how do you guys save hair textures with only limited number of colors.
i use photosop but the textures kinda mess up.

The original hair should be like this

but when i save it in photoshop, the parts between the hair strands will be colored white

no. it is transparent but after i save it , it becomes white. (the parts between the strands only. but the background stays transparent)

i appreciate your reply man. but it is for psp so i think there is no alpha channel problems :hi

when i color the transparent parts w/ the same color like the hair, ill have a big plain red square ^o)

..yes,i think in psp it's not alpha channel question..i think a thing..in photoshop the trasparent color option has a tolerance control ?..in program i use ,photofiltre, there is..it's set on value :30
but sometimes for right results i have to change this value up or down until i find a perfect image.
