In a striking find, archaeologists in Guatemala report the discovery of a small building whose walls display calendars that destroy any notion that the Mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012. This calendar spans some 7,000 years — heading much farther into the future than the supposed doomsday date.

A little coincidental that they found this building now, don't ya think?

Who knew that running out of space would cause so much hysteria centuries later?

Actually, they didn't run out of room, and they didn't even have a prophesy of the end of the world in 2012, it was just the end of that particular calendar, being as the Maya used several, thus, why they didn't need leap years.

There was NEVER a Maya 2012 prophecy, however, the masses are scared easily and never do their own research before drawing conclusions.

This isn't a calender that stretches further, it's a completely different calender altogether.

I knew that there was no prophesy. I just assumed that they stopped at 2012 because this was a VERY long time into the future (when this work happened). They simply had done more than was sufficient for that time.

But IF it was a prophesy, it has already been proven wrong. As like you said, they didn't need leap years. So the predicted end of the world could actually have been years ago.

Don't get me wrong, there IS a prophecy attached to these calenders, but all it involves it the king who was in charge when said calender was made will return to make sure his city still stands.

Y'know, classic mythology shit. I didn't think for a minute that you believed that crap, I just had an opportunity to throw a tid-bit in.

First of all, a peep for great and proper use of 'tidbit' (which can be spelled like this, or with a hyphen).

And this thread is talking about Mayan calendars. So there is no harm in discussing Mayan stuff here. Why can we not be a site that also expands minds?

I knew this shit was all BS!

Personally my interest got the better of me and I took alot of this stuff to heart and believed a few things regarding the prophecy of 2012. Stupid me, I admit I was wrong...........AGAIN!

And this is why the world population needs to stop putting it's faith on how long the world lasts on a calendar that's over 4,000 (I don't know the real number so i'm guessing) years old.

as far as they could go on the size of the brass being engraved I guess and Im sure it was made like this to save fucking around next year and so on.
FACT: for the mayans the world ended a long time ago.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but each of their calenders spanned centuries into the future and past, when one would end, the other began. They also cycle eventually. They are not the first people to use this kind of history-keeping design, plenty of cultures did.

Believe it or not, the Maya are not gone, they never have been, though its been lost to history why exactly they left their ancient cities.

But yeah, the Maya people are still alive and well.

So, what do we do now? should we try and kill the remaining Maya's to stop dooms day? or force them to build us a new calendar..

You know, I always thought that they were lazy to continue doing up the calendar. My logic was that they thought: "Ok, I have done several thousands of years for the Calendar, should I continue? ....Nah, I'll be dead by then, someone will do it for me then."

Little did he/she/they know, hilarity ensures, as it's causing mass panicking now (by mass I don't mean everyone).

If you look closely at their calendars, there is no mention of the millennium bug striking in 2000.

And it didn't happen either! They knew!
