Lucky! I live in sunny southern California, so I've only ever seen snow once in my lifetime :( And our view of the night sky is pretty shitty from all the bright lights of the city..

Im from the UK Jazz, London to be precise. I want to move to the states but my wife will have none of it! and we have a young baby girl, so would not be the right time atm, but I personally prefer the culture and lifestyle of the states, compared to the UK. Maybe sometime in the future it may happen.
Nice! I'm heading over to the UK for a two-week vacation around late May/early June of next year, to visit a good friend of mine who's currently going to school in Canterbury, visiting another friends' family in Manchester, and I also plan to stop by and spend a few days in London.

I know what you mean though, I visited Japan earlier this year and just fell in love with the culture that I want to have some sort of extended stay over there. I was lucky to have established a few connections to important people in the music instrument business there, so I'm just working on mastering the language and then hopefully I can get a job over in Tokyo sometime next year or early 2012..
I hope you end up in the 'States at some point too!!
Wow!! I would love to visit Japan too, as I have never been. Its another culture im sure I could adjust to and enjoy. I will hopefully be visiting the states sometime next year to see relatives. I would love to live in the states, but my wife is too comfortable and content living in the UK, so I dont think it will happen. So what do you do in the music industry? Sounds great!

Yeah, Japan is pretty fun, you should definitely visit someday! Especially as a pro wrestling fan, since Tokyo still loves its puroresu and there's a ton of shows there on any given month. I was there for 10 days and managed to catch Pro Wrestling NOAH, New Japan Pro Wrestling (the opening night of this years G-1 Climax), and a Dragon Gate show..there was also some Joshi show and several DDT Pro Wrestling shows running that I had to pass on due to money issues (that's one major tip when visiting Japan: bring lots of money because everything is expensive as hell).
I befriended Ricky Marvin @ the NOAH show, I can't speak any more highly of him, he really went out of his way to make sure I had an enjoyable experience and hung out with me before and after the show too, so if you ever go to Japan and/or ever happen to go to a Pro Wreslting NOAH show, be sure to say hello to Ricky Marvin! I have a ton of wrestling stories, but I don't wanna derail this thread, haha. But I will say that some of the nicest people I met on my trip where either pro wrestlers/staff/wrestling fans, they really appreciate us foreigners who are puroresu fans and go attend their shows. I'll post some pictures over in that other picture thread.

As for what I do in the music instrument business, is that the company I work for (G&L Musical Instruments) has extensive ties to Japan, we do a lot of business there and one of our biggest investors is the CEO of the biggest music instrument retail chain in Japan (Yamano Gakki), who also happens to be a close friend of our company's CEO..who happens to be an important person in the instrument business (he was formerly a president of both Yamaha Musical Instruments and Fender Musical Instruments in the 80's). It's a long story, but the music instrument business works like a lot of other businesses out there, sometimes it's not so much what you do, but who you know and who you've worked for, that gets you ahead, and since our company is directly tied to Leo Fender and George Fullerton, it opens up a lot of opportunities to meet important people.. hope that somewhat clears it up for you.

Hey Jazz, its seems your life is far more exciting than mine. lol. Also please do not worry about de-railing the thread as its all about getting to know everyone, so please feel free to carry on. I will hopefully in a couple of years go to Japan as I love the culture and have a good friend who is Japanese and a big Puro fan, and recommended to me atleast visiting once or I would regret it! So I have that planned defo.

Haha! Well, it has its shares of ups and downs, for every awesome thing I've been able to get out of working in this field, there's also a lot of shit you have to put up with, as I mentioned, this is a very politically driven business so you need to have a thick skin and accept the fact that you can't quite trust everyone you meet because they might be plotting to bring you down...I've had my share of bad experiences.
Thanks! I suppose that since most of it has to do with pro wrestling, maybe I'll start a thread where we can all share stories about shows we've gone to and/or pro wrestlers we've met, just so everything stays organized.

Oh, and I would definitely agree with your friend! You will regret it if you don't visit there at least once in your lifetime! Puroresu aside, it's a beautiful place to visit, and there are lots of fun things to do and see, especially in Tokyo. The culture itself might take some getting used to, like anywhere else it has its own set of rules and quirks but you pick up on things pretty fast, and people are for the most part accommodating even if you aren't exactly fluent in the language.

Edit: Here are some my pictures of Tokyo:

Wow those are some amazing pictures buddy. Japan looks like a beautiful and sophisticated place. I think it would be a great idea to start a thread for members to tell there experiences of meeting wrestlers from around the globe and shows they have been too, I would love that. TNA came to the UK last year and I went to the Wembley show, it was really good and its funny how the TNA wrestlers put on a better show than they do on TV & PPV when they are travelling the globe.

I will say that I like to hope I have thick skin buddy, because its seems I would need it in Japan. I have watched quite alot of documentaries on TV about Japan and that the Japanese people are generally work focused and power driver to succeed. It does not surprise me with the amazing technology they have produced for us over the years, and how intellegent they are.

Feel free to start and topic you feel would be nice to have at OSR Jazz. I want OSR to have diversity and not just things to do with wrestling but life in general and experiences people have had in life.

Thanks again for coming on board. :toast:

Only seen snow ONCE in your lifetime? Maybe I should be calling YOU the lucky one! I love the winters here, don't get me wrong.... but after 28 years of it I wouldn't mind a warm, sunny December.

Plus, when it snows like it has the last few weeks leaving town means running the chance of losing your life on the mountain passes, the snow can be cleared quickly, but the ice never seems to get a dent! That's why this Christmas I'm probably staying in the mountains and telephoning my family holiday wishes. I choose to liiiiiiiiiiiive.

I feel bad for your night-time view, my sister moved to Portland about 7 years ago, and when she returned home recently she was shocked at the view! She honestly forgot how amazing it is!

My pleasure, thanks for having me here :toast: I used to run a music forum with some buddies of mine a few years ago, then I kinda got out of the whole forum-ing thing after that died down, but just coming here to post around and meet people is nice (wish I could do it more often!), I feel quite at home here, everyone's been pretty nice so far.

About your TNA experiences, that's awesome, I look forward to reading that! I definitely agree though, we had a TNA house show here in Southern California a few years ago and I also thought it was ligthyears better than their TV product, it's so much better when it's just straight wrestling matches without any of the bad, confusing writing and all that BS.

on Japan, you are definitely right on all counts, though that does come at a price for the Japanese people, there is a very dark side to it too.. I have had several discussions on this subject with a Japanese friend of mine who lives in Tokyo and is fed up with that work-driven culture and how it stifles any kind of individualism or creativity because of that cultural mindset to conform to the norms and 'contribute to the country'.

Haha, then we should trade locations for a while!

Though, reading further, I guess those are some pretty big tradeoffs that I hadn't considered before, that does sound both troublesome and risky..
So how about your summertime there?

About the night-view, that's sounds awesome! I only get a decent view of the stars when I make the ocassional drive out through the desert, but it must be even more amazing there.
