With the 2013 Hall Of Fame Ceremony coming up in 10 days time, the 2014 class may already be decided.
The WWE wants Undertaker to be the headline entrant. Undertaker is considered to be the single most iconic face of WrestleMania. And with WM30 being an important anniversary, the timing may never be better for his inclusion.
Rey Mysterio and Triple H are both poised for induction. There are arguments that either man could be the headline inductee in any given year. But the WWE are still hopeful about inducting Owen Hart, Randy Savage or Ultimate Warrior in the HOF some day. If that happened sooner rather than later, the WWE would feel compelled to keep pushing back Mysterio or Triple H being included. So the current plan is to just bite the bullet and induct both men next year.
It should be noted that all 3 men are resistant to the idea of joining the HOF any time soon. All of them believe that it would mean having to accept an in-ring retirement. Each would rather wait until they know for certain that they would never compete again before agreeing.
Right now, Paul Bearer is the most popular candidate. Rumour has it that the WWE were already trying to reach a deal with Bearer for this year. But due to his very recent death, it would be inappropriate for the company to persue negotiations at this time.
Another reason for Triple H being inducted is the plan to induct DeGeneration X as a stable. Even though Triple H and Shawn Michaels had refused, the entire group was going to be inducted this year if negotiations with Bruno Sammartino fell through. This would mean that Triple H would become the first person to be inducted twice in the same year. If this goes ahead, the group will consist of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Road Dogg Jesse James, Badd Ass Billy Gunn, X-Pac and Chyna.
Chyna's induction would cover both the 'Group' and 'Diva' categories. At the same time, the New Age Outlaws (Gunn and James) would cover the 'Group' and 'Tag Team' categories.
Rick Rude would not be inducted as a member of DX, despite the fact that he was a founding member. But there is talk about inducting him on his own.
Kevin Nash is a also a considered name. Nash recently claimed that if he did not go into the HOF this year, he may never be interested in going in again. But the WWE does not consider the negotiations to be over yet.
There is a big push to put either Paul Heyman or Vince McMahon in as well. McMahon has refused to discuss either name so far.
There is talk about including singer Cyndi Lauper as the celebrity entrant.
