Anonymous WWE Star Rants On The Rock

With The Rock making his much anticipated return to Raw next Monday, John Cena had harsh words for "The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment" on this week's show, saying he's no longer The People's Champion, but he's a champion with people (referring to the entourage around him). After strongly criticizing The Rock for returning, but not sticking around WWE, Cena vowed to beat the iconic grappler in his hometown of Miami, Florida at WrestleMania XXVIII.

A number of WWE performers appeared giddy backstage over Cena's remarks as they legitimately feel that way over the actor/wrestler. One talent commented via text (with permission to be quoted under the condition of anonymity): "[The Rock] comes in to use WWE to get back the audience he lost doing Disney movies, which is fine but he's been back over a year and name one person he helped make a bigger star since then? No one.

"He's here for himself, he keeps to himself, and he keeps someone who's actually touring here all year from making a bigger payday at the bigger shows. It's all about making this the "biggest" Mania of all time. OK, then what do we do the rest of the year? Who's been made? You think he took ANY blame for Survivor [Series] not drawing? Of course not, but how do you feud with a guy on the Titantron? Cena nailed the guy dead on tonight.

"Say anything about HHH, Taker, etc. still being in the top spot but if they were needed to work the road, they would and they would still work their asses off as much as they needed to. Rock is out for Rock and the idea he's here to better anything but his own wallet is the biggest work of 2012."

It sure sounds like somebody's got their panties in a bunch...

First off, it's easy to shoot your mouth off when you're lurking in the shadows and nobody knows who you are. Second, there's a few relevant points that are being completely overlooked - such as:

Quote:

[The Rock] comes in to use WWE to get back the audience he lost doing Disney movies...[/quote]Even if that were true, fact is Rock is still a much bigger star than this anonymous wannabe will ever be. It's easy to hate when you're filled with jealousy and envy.

Quote:

It's all about making this the "biggest" Mania of all time. OK, then what do we do the rest of the year? Who's been made?[/quote]Rock isn't coming back to 'make' people and it isn't all about what 'we' (i.e. the talent) do the rest of the year, rather, Rock is coming back for the fans. You remember the fans right? You know, those insignificant little people that you failed to mention anywhere in your rant?

Quote:

Say anything about HHH, Taker, etc. still being in the top spot but if they were needed to work the road, they would and they would still work their asses off as much as they needed to.[/quote]So the top guys aren't needed to work the road?... Just who are Triple H and 'Taker 'making'?... And why is it okay for them - to not work the road and not 'make' anyone - but not okay for Rock to do the same?

Something smells to high heaven here... It all amounts to very selective reasoning and quite possibly a giant load of bull.

When the Rock came back i was excited as everyone, but as time went on. The more i agreed with what Cena was saying especially last night. I don't believe i would ever type this, but i hope like hell Cena wins & Wrestlemania. Because even tho it's for diff reasons i feel this way for each person, Rock just needs to what the Undertaker needs to do, pack your bags and go home.

I can appreciate your view, it's just I'm looking at it from the fans side in terms of what could be one last great memory... It seems a shame to lose that simply because someone isn't available for full-time work. Hell, if he was here full-time it wouldn't be so damn special.

That being said I generally do frown on ex-wrestlers coming back and taking a spot from a young guy in his prime. Case in point Foley at the Rumble.

But the Rock isn't Foley, nor for that matter is he Undertaker. Rock isn't running on fumes and still looks the part so why not come back to create a memory for the ages? Or should we just chuck the whole thing 'cause Rock isn't 'making' some anonymous mid-carder a bigger star?

Since when does Rock owe this guy anything? If he wants to be 'made,' maybe he should do it the old fashioned way and grab the industry by the throat on his own. Unless of course he's just a no talent hack who needs to ride the Rock's coattails to get anywhere in life. [/rant]... :p

I agree with the midcarder thing myself.

Maybe i should look at it thru my son's eyes, The magic is still there for him & he is so star struck because 2 of his favorite guys are going at it & as he says "Dad i'm conflicted on who to cheer for"

I get where your sons coming from... I admit I'm marking out so I really don't want to see the cynical side... I guess I'm in the same camp - just wanting it to be magic...

My main problem with The Rock these days is the complete lack on sincerity he seems to have. Sure, he's raising the eyebrow, laying boots to asses..... about 4 times a year via video. At first I was damn happy, but as it goes on, I'm going to side with the guy who actually loves the business, not what the business could do for him.

The Rock, if he ever wants to cement himself in many fan's eyes... needs to return for one more legitimate full-time run to keep many of his people. This latest crap he is doing just comes off as his "hollywood heel" gimmick he had in the early 2000's (my personal favorite time), except this time it isn't a work.

Rocky, I love ya, but unless you can come down from whatever steeple you think you deserve, I'll be screaming (quit loudly) at my TV this Wrestlemania for Cena to wipe the canvas with you.

I really dont give two shits about The Rock these days! He mainly comes back to WWE to hype some box-office bomb movie or still show he still has it with the current WWE fans, of which he does. I fucking hate Cena, but agree with WF. I hope Cena wins. Rock will come and go and not really have WWE interests at heart, while Cena does. He is the main attraction to all those little kiddies at home and is one of the biggest merchandiser seller's WWE has. Rock offers that "Special attraction", and those awesome promo's, but thats all in this current climate.

I love what Rock has done for the industry and will be a HOF in the years to come, but he needs to get real and realise that the time is "Now" for the younger guys.

MIZ is for real.

Not sure Miz would be that stupid, honestly, that guy is used to be hazed more than anyone in the roster. Him taking heat isn't anything new. Besides the R-Truth fiasco, he has taken a lot of heat from day one that he managed to take. I remember stories of JBL banning him from the locker room for a really long time. No one ever respected the guy from the get go. Who could? He was a nobody who happened to be on a reality show at some point.

But he stuck it out, so I gotta give him props. If he really is that stupid to let that slip, it could even be a work. Who knows.

Rock should lose at Wrestlemania, and have a run similar to Hogan's last legitimate WWE run, where he won a few matches, but just put over more guys than anything. Rock, you are riding that dangerous line between and asshole and a Hogan. Oh wait.

I still hate Cena. He is the lesser of 2 evils. Let's be honest. Would Cena have stuck around if even just one of his outside projects succeeded? No.

Cena is only a professional wrestler because he is a failed bodybuilder. His movies failed. His CD failed.

But I have been saying since the day that I started at this site that the Rock is a waste of acknowledgement. Feel free to check my previous comments. I have been saying for an entire year that the Rock is only back to keep himself relevant in the movie industry. He knows it his his WWE tenure (all 5 years of it) that keeps the People interested in him.

TDK, I cannot agree with your point of making a memory. Because this will be less than that. Look how well Rock's movie career is doing now since he returned to the WWE. That is the real Rock Bottom. And what good is that memory if we, the fans, pay for it with a lack of good television for 2 years? If the currently active WWE roster cannot match someone who has been inactive for 5 years, it makes them all look pathetic. And a roster full of pathetic wrestlers makes for even worse shows.

If either man really wanted to give us a show, how about jobbing to Christian at WrestleMania? Or anyone other than Triple H?

Let's be honest people, which would you rather see? "The Champ" versus "The People's Champion", or "Never Give Up" versus "The Streak"? I would rather see Rock finish his feud with Christian.

It sucked, and it bombed!

Even J.R. rated Fozzy's album over it!

I don't think it makes the roster look pathetic so much as the company for failing to build more than a couple of stars in the last five years... What have they been so busy with that they couldn't find time to 'build' their shows around more than a couple of guys in the hopes of developing another star? Say what you will about the Rock - and yes he has plenty of shortcomings- but it's not his fault that WWE maintains a limited and fairly stagnant business model.

Which brings me back to your point about the roster getting buried... To repeat myself, I don't think the talent level is pathetic at all. Many of the current stars can easily surpass Rock in terms of 'steak' but not in 'sizzle.'

While we may not like it, for better or worse, sizzle sells - and if WWE wants to keep their roster 'boring' for the sake of protecting their top guys - how is that Rock's fault?

To be honest, I don't see Rock's return as directly leading to "worse shows." IMO, in the current climate, the shows are pretty much the same week in and week out and I'm fairly certain things will revert back to same old/same old once Rock packs it in. If this turns out to be the case, then why not have a little fun in between?

At least Rock/Cena holds the promise of delivering a legit opponent that doesn't depend upon sucking all the air out of a guy like Zach Ryder to make it happen. IMO, that seems like a step in the right direction.

Rock has a existing feud with Christian? I thought their feud ended years ago. You're referring to the one whereby Christian called himself the new "Peeps champ", right?

Right. They built up to a match, but then never did it.

The Rock was doing his 'Hollywood' gimmick at the time. And in a genuine interview, he said that Christian was his favourite wrestler of all time. Whether or not this was a joke was never established. But with Christian being a heel at the time, they wrote it into his gimmick. He was the new "Peeps Champion", as chosen by the "FORMER People's Champion".

When the Rock returned, Christian was slowly moving into the upper tier as a heel, but the Rock was a fan favourite again. Rock then insisted that Christian was not good enough to follow in his footsteps. They built up to a match between the pair (which Christian was supposed to lose). But as I said, they never did it. The Rock would return a few more times and be confronted by Christian.
