Quote:

There has been lots of talk within WWE about Rey Mysterio's future with the company over the last 48 hours. Rey's deal expires in 3 months and with there no longer being a top spot for him, the belief among some is that he is preparing to finish up his last run and be finished.

Those same people that speculate he's leaving soon believe that he could end up on the new AAA TV show that debuts on the El Rey Network this fall. Rey could end up being a major player on that show when it launches. Konnan, who remains close with Rey, will play a big part of the new AAA TV show. That show is scheduled to start taping in Los Angeles this August.[/quote]

The WWE owns the rights to Rey Mysterio. However, he and his uncle own the rights to Rey Misterio, and the mask design. They have an agreement with another young Mexican wrestler to let him use the Misterio name.

Seeing Rey with more Lucha guys would be great!

El Hijo de (The son of) Rey Misterio is actually his cousin (if you count Miguel Angel,WWE's Mysterio father, then El Hijo of Misterio is actually his nephew).

Mexican Wrasslin logic.

Anyway,it'll be cool to see Mistico and Mysterio on Mexico again.Maybe even if they go to diferent company's,I would like to see a Lucha Libre style match beetween them.

I'm sorry, but good riddance. I've never liked Mysterio, he was always some lacky jobber in my eyes; his matches were somewhat entertaining when he entered the WWE from WCW, but he never changed or transmogrified his moveset over the years - I prefer Sin Cara to him and that's saying a lot.

I completely disagree.

Rey is a legend and I got nothing but respect for a guy who started stepping into the ring at 13, while still maintaining good grades at school.

Rey is one of the most important wrestlers in history.

I have to agree with CBV there. Rey Mysterio is possibly THE greatest luchadore.

Let me back that statement up. Companies like WCW and ECW tried to introduce English speaking fans to international styles of wrestling. But both companies needed Rey Misterio, Jr. and Psicosis to get the luchadore style over in the US. We can talk about what Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero and Malenko did for Cruiserweights all we want. But it was the appeal of Misterio, Jr. that caught people's attention to Cruiserweights.

Thanks to Misterio, Jr. and Psicosis, fans became more accepting of the Japanese cruiserweight style too. Would we care who Jushin Lyger, Tiger Mask, Tajiri, Great Sasuke, Great Muta and Ultimo Dragon were if it wasn't for the luchadores that worked both ECW and WCW? Only a minority would.

Then as Rey Mysterio, he helped pave the way for smaller wrestlers in the WWE. For his first few years, Mysterio had a lot of great matches with almost everyone he worked with. This guy made fans out of people who normally choose not to watch pro wrestling. He paved the way for smaller wrestlers like CM Punk, A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels and Daniel Bryan, whose size and hybrid styles would have been unwelcome in the industry.

I have to say that it is time for Mysterio to go. The guy is dealing with too many injuries resulting from a very long and physical career. Both knees, his back and one of his shoulders are failing him and are in almost constant pain. He can barely walk. He still has young children. I am not saying that he can't still be a good father from a wheelchair. But he has the choice to avoid that fate. Would he rather not retain the physical health that he has left and be able to do more for his family?

Mysterio's body cannot cope with an in-ring career anymore. But he can still stand to make a lot of money and help improve the industry from outside of the ring. I know that it can be a hard decision for him, but there is a lot at stake here. If he is wise, he will bow out while the choice is his own.

If the WWE would give him a part-time schedule like he's damn well earned by now he could still go. However, he pushes himself waaaay to hard. Poor guy.

The sunset awaits Rey, you don't owe us anything.
