Let's face it, 2013 was not exactly a strong year for professional wrestling. But there are some people who want 2013 to be forgotten more than others. This list looks at some of the people who have had a bad year. Some of them gave their best, but were still handed defeat after defeat topped with humiliation. Others made us change the channel or hit our heads off a wall. But who made the 2013 S**t List?

Stephanie McMahon – Triple H and Stephanie McMahon re-hashed the ‘McMahon-Helmsley Era’ story line of 2000 with one major difference; Stephanie will never take a hit from any of her rivals. Triple H is someone who can and sometimes does fight for himself. When he does this, he puts himself in jeopardy while backing up the power he abuses. Stephanie, however, is a complete coward. She may take tough and act brave, but this is because she knows that she is never at risk. Stephanie is free to belittle and insult some of the toughest men and women in the company, knowing that they cannot appear intimidating without her prior consent. Her rivals have to get their insults and comebacks pre-approved by Stephanie herself. She acts far too tough for anyone who never has to back it up.

Maria Kanellis – Maria’s unprofessionalism finally came back to haunt her. Despite claiming to be a lifelong wrestling fan and wanting to become a wrestler, Maria put little effort into her WWE career. When she decided to call it a day, she thanked her former employers by insulting them in shoot interviews. Up until this year, Maria had portrayed someone that “has balls” (translation: a complete bitch who does not want to be seen as a complete bitch). She made very direct accusations about her former co-workers. Despite all the nasty things she said, she jumped at the chance to return to the WWE. But a lot of current employees made it very clear that they did not want to work with her again because of her comments. She has convinced herself that it was because of the Bella Twins “unprofessionalism”. But this explanation overlooks how nasty her comments were, and how many people she insulted.

Hulk Hogan – Hulk Hogan finished his fourth and final year on a 2-year contract with TNA. But the same old tricks he had pulled finally backfired on him. TNA desperately needed to save money, and this meant giving most staff members pay cuts, while releasing a lot of talented guys. What they very quickly learned was that the biggest drain on cash was Hogan himself. Hogan continued to slam TNA President Dixie Carter’s decisions on his Twitter account and in radio interviews. All the while, Hogan was making high-money deals with other companies to use his image, including the WWE. Management finally accepted that Hogan was terrible for business and refused to renew his contract without major changes to it. They also systematically phased out ideas that Hogan introduced, while bringing in new ones that Hogan had dismissed. Hogan would spend the last part of the year begging the WWE or TNA to give him a high-money contract for little work.

Jay Bradley – Jay Bradley should not be on this list. But bad booking by TNA has sealed his fate. He has been an enhancement talent since signing with the company. He was entered into the Bound For Glory series, but only scored one match victory. He beats Hernandez into last place simply because he got pinned more often.

Jay Brisco – Brisco deserved the Ring Of Honor championship for his dedication to advancing the company alone. Not to mention that he is a consistently great performer. One month into his title reign, he congratulated his state on passing a law that allowed same-sex marriage on Twitter. Minutes later, he posted another tweet in character saying that he would “f**king shoot” anyone who taught his kids that there was nothing wrong with same-sex marriage. Many people did not get the joke and Brisco became a hate figure. Jay repeatedly apologised for the remarks, and donated his earnings to charity. A lot of the public would not accept his apology, and Jay found it really hard to get another booking for the next several months. ROH allowed his contract to expire and announced publicly announced that they would not be renewed. Both Briscos have since returned to ROH, but promoters are still wary about using either man.

3MB – In late 2012, Heath Slater jobbed to a number of wrestling legends and retired veterans on episodes of Raw. All of the veterans praised Slater for how great he was to work with. As a reward, they decided to give Slater a strong push. They made Slater the leader of 3MB, along with underused talents Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre. But just about every single story line that was devised for the group was scrapped, and they very quickly became comedy jobbers. Even COO Triple H mocked booking them on shows.

Sin Cara (Original) – Alberto Del Rio still wrestled a World Title defence at SummerSlam despite showing up with facial bruising and an eye injury. The next night on Raw, his match with Sin Cara (original) was stopped after only 1 minute due to injury. Cara botched a dive between the ropes, and crashed head first into Del Rio’s face. He also pushed his hand into Del Rio’s injured eye. Del Rio wanted to continue the match, but Cara could not compete due to a dislocated ring finger. The WWE medics could not find anything wrong with him, but Cara somehow required time off to recover. Del Rio needed no time off to recover.

Dolph Ziggler – Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to win the World Heavyweight Championship. In his very next match, Ziggler suffered a concussion which made him unable to defend the title. For the rest of the year, Ziggler saw himself in on-again, off-again pushes which returned him to the mid-card.

Low-Ki – The veteran indie wrestler retired this year after injuries and a promoter failed to pay him. A lot of other wrestlers were very happy to hear this, because they hated working with him and his very stiff wrestling style. It’s not a good sign when other wrestlers are happy that you have retired.

Jim Ross – The WWE choose to fire Jim Ross after a successful press conference. The press conference was held to promote the WWE 2K14 video game. Ric Flair was held to a contractual obligation to show up really soon after his son’s untimely death. However, everyone involved with the event said to have loved it because of Flair’s input. But WWE management were unhappy and blamed it on Ross. They even got Ross to agree to keep it secret for a month, and pretend that he had chosen to retire from wrestling.

Ryback – Ryback started the year as the personal favourite of both Vince and Stephanie McMahon to break through in 2013. Ryback dropped from pay-per-view main eventer to mid-tier tag team performer. Management and fans have both noticed how he has actually gotten worse with experience. Ryback was also blamed for Goldberg backing out a WrestleMania XXX deal.

Goldberg – Goldberg refused to be interviewed for the new Goldberg DVD set, and then criticised the WWE for deciding not to include him in it. He also turned down several offers to appear at WrestleMania XXX because he was not being offered the money he wanted. He refused to meet with anyone from WWE, have any medicals or do anything to prove that he was in good physical condition for a match. When it was clear that he was not going to get the money he wanted, he called off negotiations, but blamed it on Ryback being “unprofessional”.

Sid Vicious – There are few good things to say about Cameron, and this feeling was shared by Sid Vicious. He made his feelings known on Twitter. Cameron responded to his insults in character Not realising what was going on, he insinuated that she was stupid. But then Cameron schooled Vicious on being in character without sinking to his level. Think about this; Cameron was kicked off Tough Enough for knowing nothing about wrestling. But she owned a former WrestleMania main eventer on insider knowledge.

Eva Marie – Eva Marie was hired specifically for the Total Divas show. She has shown very little interest in wrestling, and was in the single worst match of the year. She repeatedly annoys fans with her lack of knowledge about wrestling, performance or seemingly anything else. She also alienated most of the locker room by refusing to associate with anyone outside of the Total Divas cast. She is rumoured to be very much like her onscreen character. But the WWE continues to push her because of modelling work she does outside of the company.

D’Lo Brown – TNA agent D’Lo Brown returned to active competition due to pressure from TNA Management. During this time, he was not paid as a performer. Management were also pressuring all employees to take pay cuts, or risk being released from their contracts. Brown was one of the very first people to agree to the pay decrease. In spite of this, he was one of the first staff members to be released.

Curtis Axel – Curtis Axel finally received a proper push after backing from both Paul Heyman and the Rock. The third generation superstar quickly won the Intercontinental Championship. Despite being on a higher tier, he continued to lose most of his matches. One of the most embarrassing losses was when he was defeated by a badly injured CM Punk.

The Miz & Kofi Kingston – It doesn’t matter how hard either of these guys are pushed, or how many titles they win, they seem doomed to forever feud with each other at the exact same level.

Brooke Hogan – We all know that failed singer/actress Brooke was only hired in TNA because of her father Hulk Hogan. She was supposed to be the authority figure for the Knockouts Division, but nearly all of her segments involved Hogan, Sting and Aces N Eights. She seemed to have very little interested in the division she was put in charge of, which was in turmoil for most of the year. To make things worse, both Brooke and Hulk kept forgetting about TNA story lines when they were on social media. She kept her relationship status as “single” throughout her onscreen relationship and marriage with Bully Ray. She then blew the story line by announcing her real-life engagement to her real life boyfriend.

Curtis Jackson and Tito Ortiz – For unknown reasons, Dixie Carter introduced 2 MMA fighters with no professional wrestling training to the main roster. King Mo was also on the roster, but he was in Ohio Valley Wrestling receiving training. Jackson and Ortiz debuted immediately and both were quickly taken into the Main Event Mafia and Aces N Eights stables respectively. To make things worse, both men were scheduled to compete in an actual MMA fight. Jackson was hurt in a scripted stunt in which Ortiz struck him in the head with a hammer (Jackson hit his head on the steel support frame of the ring). Bellator demanded that both men be removed from the roster at once to avoid jeopardising their fight.

Konnan – Konnan had a very short run in WWE as Max Moon. McMahon had invested a lot of money into promoting the character, specifically in making his pyrotechnic firing suit. Konnan was allegedly disrespectful to McMahon in front of other wrestlers and left the company rather soon to join WCW. After being blacklisted, Konnan and McMahon reconciled earlier this year. But all of a sudden, Konnan seemed to think that he was McMahon’s biggest confidant. He repeatedly takes to Twitter and insults many of the current roster members. Each time, he insists that Vince himself told him the information that he is passing on. Why would Vince trust someone who is not directly involved with the WWE with this information? Not forgetting that Vince has only recently forgiven Konnan and refused to talk to him for almost 20 years.
