El Hijo del Perro Aguayo's cause of death has been reclassified as a stroke caused by cervical damage.

This is consistent with previous reports of whiplash damage to his trachea. A stroke is caused by lack of blood or oxygen flow to the brain. While most strokes are non-fatal, they do claim a large number of victims across the world. Survivors are normally left with reduced brain or physical function and are prone to repeat attacks in the future.

Event organisers have been criticised for not having sufficient medical care in place in the event of an emergency. Witnesses said that there was no doctor on hand and that El Hijo was carried to hospital on a plywood board. However, these stories were exaggerated slightly. The doctor working the event was tending to two other wrestlers backstage when the incident happened. This is why he was not at ringside when it happened. The plywood board was used in order to move El Hijo to the back as fast as possible. The instant he was backstage, he was placed onto the stretcher and rushed to the hospital less than 1 block away. The
attending doctor approved of all of these practices.

Doctors at the hospital tried for a full hour to revive El Hijo but were unsuccessful. He had been given an MRI to rule out any other causes of death. The previously mentioned police investigation will still go ahead.

Rey Mysterio, who was in the match with El Hijo, posted two messages of condolence to his friend. One dirtsheet wrongly translated Mysterio's words as an announcement that he was retiring AAA and wrestling because of the accident. What he was actually saying was that he was accepting the this had happened and that he was trusting in God that things will work out right.

<blockquote class='quote\\_blockquote'><dl><dt>Mysterio's comments translated into English</dt><dd> </dd></dl><div>
“Just a friendship of brothers that started years ago and we should not question God’s plan was formed, but on this occasion I wonder why and I do not understand. Miss you and I will take with me the rest of my life. Rest in peace Hijo Del Perro.”

“With all due respect WORLD My deepest condolences to the family Aguayo. I will ask God to fill in Fortaleza and resignation to overcome this great loss ! God Bless, and to fill us in Fortaleza!”

Too bad he got in the ring so quick, had he stayed outside he may have been able to signal for help sooner rather than have Konnan shake him around like that which probably didn't help matters at all.

It's tragic and a total shame. The amount of idiots on FB posting inaccurate reasons for Perro's death and blaming Rey Mysterio for his death need to fuck off and not assume anything until facts are released. I actually feel for Rey as he has been getting the brunt of the blame for his death and soke of the comments have been appalling. The doctors at the show could have done more and watching that video Perro was out on the ropes for a long time until Konnan, Rey released something was wrong. I think initially they may have thought he was selling but yeah, he was obviously in trauma. It was horrible to watch. In Football/Soccer there was a situation where a footballer called Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch and INSTANTLY the doctors/Paramedics ran onto the pitch. He actually was considered dead, but thank to god he was revived and taken straight to hospital where he went threw rehabilitation and now is fully healthy, though his football career is over. Would it have made a difference if there was a quicker response for Perro? Maybe, but who knows. It's just very sad and again, another year where unexpected deaths are occurring.

I think it's the ropes man not the first time doubt it will be the last. They practice and train but spots and timing gets off and bad things happen. It was clear Rey did his best to avoid further injury when he missed the 619 so these haters need to really watch and get off Rey's back.Rey is a professional and this was his friend he did not hurt that man intentionally in any way!

Why did they still leave him in the ring even when they knew something was clearly wrong?

I understand that they have a match and they have to keep in character, but if someone is dying in the ring, would it be too much to rush them to the hospital now? and Yes, I know the doctors are busy

Maybe, just maybe, no one knew he was dying.

I'm willing to bet they knew he was injured, but not dying. Matches finish when an injury happens all the time.

A sad reminder of how dangerous wrestling can be. Not only do they put their bodes on the line, they put their lives on the line all for our entertainment.

People don't realize that like, people get knocked out all the time. You ever been at a party and seen someone knocked out on a couch and just draw a dick on their forehead or something? You don't assume they're dead, because you know you were all drinking. Rey landed what looked like a pree stiff dropkick on Perro. He probably just thought he KO'd him. Same with Konnan. Konnan watched him and waited for him to wake up to tell him where the match is at, but he didn't wake up. It's nobody's fault. It's the danger of any physical contact sport/activity.

That being said, I was really upset yesterday reading about this and stuff, and my condolences go to everyone involved. Everyone says condolences to his family, but think about the grand scheme too. Not to take away from what his family deserves, but on top of them, you have to give condolences to his friends, the men in the match who for sure feel guilty, his fans who lost an idol, the people who watched somebody die in the ring, the company for losing a top star, wrestling as a whole for the media backlash we're presumably going to face, and every dip and bound between each one of those statements.

RIP Perro.

Time will tell. He has had several friends in the industry die suddenly. Eddie Guerrero being the most obvious one. But this is the only time in his career that someone had a life/career ending injury during one of his matches. He is bound to be aware that some idiots are already blaming him. But only time will tell if it affects his career or not.

As far as promoters booking him, I doubt anything will change. Insiders are smart enough to know that Mysterio is an incredibly safe worker who tries hard not to put people he competes with at risk. They also know that tragedies like these can happen at any time even if everything is done right. Mysterio will remain highly in demand, and people will be willing to book him if he is still willing to work.
