Matt Hardy has just surrendered the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

I wish I was joking you. TNA Wrestling has just posted a video statement from Hardy giving up the title.

Matt Hardy won his first World championship in the main event of TNA's Bound For Glory pay-per-view last Sunday. He was only added to the main event with Drew Galloway and previous champion Ethan Carter III less than a week ago. The story line is that ECIII responded to the loss by filing an injunction against Hardy. The injunction prevents Hardy from attending the Impact Zone, or any episode of TNA Impact for some time to come. The story line adds Hardy tried to appeal the injunction, but his earliest hearing will be in December. So Hardy has voluntarily surrendered the title owing to the fact that he cannot maintain his obligations as champion.

Let's forget for a moment that the injunction would not be legally valid. As TNA Wrestling is a privately owned company, the courts cannot issue an injunction against an employee attending the location of his job. Also, while Ethan is supposedly related to the TNA President, he does not actually have any controlling authority within the company. Any injunction would need to be filed by management.

In reality, the problem is that TNA filmed too many episodes of Impact in advance, and have no more tapings planned for the near future. The plan to give the title to Matt Hardy was recent. Hardy was not present for some of the previous tapings, and did not have the title during any of them. So for the sake of continuity, this story line was designed to explain Hardy's disappearance from television.

This is the second time this year that Matt Hardy has had a title stripped off him. Earlier this year, Matt won the TNA Tag Team Championship with his brother and long time tag team partner Jeff. However, Jeff suffered a broken ankle during a quad bike accident. The pair were stripped off the titles because Jeff was unable to compete.

Didn't their ring break minutes before their first show?

Yes it did. They couldn't show the ring on camera for the first 10 minutes of their launch PPV while the Harris Twins repaired the ring ropes.

THAT'S the story of TNA, sure, shit's really fucked up on a hilarious level sometimes, but the show goes on.
