A bunch of stuff I use. My PC is almost 10 years old, yet was able to run Windows 7 like a champ.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner - CCLeaner. Cleans unnecessary files and broken files in your registry. Also good for deleting programs that don't come with uninstallers.

http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage - AVG Free Edition. If you don't have an Anti-Virus program installed, this is a great free solution. Much better than Norton or McAffre (sp?) in my opinion.

My favorite free anti-virus is Avast
