Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde, the original Sin Cara, and the WWE have finally parted ways. Nobody can be surprised that this was coming as Alvirde has not been used since August.
Alvirde was being groomed to be the company's big Mexican star for when Rey Mysterio retired, as well as Triple H's first hand-picked signing. However, Alvirde had failed to live up to expectations. He didn't try hard enough to adapt to non-Mexican wrestling styles or learning English. He became famous for botching in every single one of his matches, frequently hurting others and himself. Despite being a veteran luchadore, Alvirde frequently landed on his own head and face. Most of his matches would be against fellow luchadores Alberto Del Rio and Hunico.
Only 2 months after his debut, Alvirde earned his first Wellness Policy violation. He was given over a month to prove that he had a perscription, but never even gave WWE medical staff the name of his doctor. During his suspension, he publically told Mexican media that he did not understand why he was suspended and that the WWE was on the wrong. There were also rumours that he earned a second Wellness Policy violation, but the WWE chose to suspend him quietly and not announce it.
Alvirde would be injured quite frequently, and then would remain out of action for months at a time. In his final match, Alvirde had the match stopped after only 1 minute. He claimed that he had dislocated one of his fingers and was unable to compete. Even though WWE doctors could not find anything wrong, he still took time off to recover.
There are conflicting reports about his release. Some claim that his contract expired late last year, and he was waiting for the 90 day no compete clause to expire. However, the no complete clause does not apply if a contract expires. Other reports claim that his contract expired naturally on Wednesday.
Alvirde continues to compete as Sin Cara in Mexico, insisting that he owns the rights to the WWE produced character. Hunico has been competing as Sin Cara on WWE programming since Alvirde was removed.
Alvirde recently hinted that he would take legal action against the WWE as he appears in the WWE's new Scooby Doo movie. He claims that he did not give the WWE the right to use his voice or the Sin Cara character in the film. However, the WWE would never have allowed either to remain in the final release if some kind of deal had not been finalised.
