Over 200 WWE fans have taken to Facebook to report a "copyright infringement". But most of the comments were posted on fan pages which are not run by the WWE.
The claims refer to a Season 2 episode of British sitcom 'Bad Education'. The show is created, written and stars comedian Jack Whitehall. The show centers around Alfie Wickers (Whitehall), an inexperienced history teacher who struggles to gain respect from his colleagues and students.
In the episode 'Funeral', Alfie helps his students create a memorial service for their Deputy Head Teacher. Student Mitchell (Charlie Wernham) references an October 2005 episode of SmackDown (but calls it "Survivor Series"). He recalls the Undertaker rising from a coffin and nailing Randy Orton with a chokeslam and a Tombstone piledriver. He asks if this can be incorporated into the service. He then opens the service by imitating the Undertaker, complete with full costume and theme music.
If there is a copyright issue here, it is because they used the theme music without permission. They did not even mention the legal owners of the music track in the closing credits. Even though the episode aired for the first time on Tuesday night, it has been available on the BBC iPlayer for a week. This would become a bigger issue if the series moves on to DVD or BluRay, but this is not expected until September 2014.
Whitehall is a self-confessed wrestling fan, and even paid for lessons to become an in-ring performer. But he didn't finish his training due to college commitments and his comedy career taking off. He often demonstrates his training on chat shows and panel quizzes by having a professional perform a body slam on him onto the unprotected stage/floor.
