The word going round right now is that nearly a dozen performers were injured at Bound For Glory, because the ring was not up to standard.
The wooden boards that make up the ring surface were made stiffer than normal, and the amount of padding used was reduced. These may seem like minor changes, but they left around 11 people nursing injuries. Being slammed unto the harder ring surface increased the likelihood of muscle tears, bruising, nerve damage and even broken bones.
The decision was made due to concerns over a high spot in the final match. Bully Ray cut away the ring canvas and padding to expose the wooden boards. In this state, the wooden boards visibly shake. If the boards moved too much, it would make the ring look much softer than it is, and thus make the wrestlers look weaker. Also, removing some of the ring canvas meant that there was less of it and wouldn't take so much time or effort for Ray to remove it. TNA were worried about "smart mark" fans concluding that there was too much padding, thus questioning how much risk the wrestlers actually take.
TNA admitted to four wrestlers getting hurt, and the identities of the other 7 have yet to be revealed. But it is known that none of these 7 are taking any time off to heal up as they have already worked television matches since.
The most notable injuries happened to Kurt Angle. TNA keep on revealing new injuries that Angle suffered from his match with Roode. The latest was a knee injury caused by moonsaulting onto the ring surface. He suffered a stinger after hitting the Angle Slam at the end of his match. However, Angle is choosing to blame his time out of the ring for his injuries.
