This year, the WWE website is trying to observe both Christmas and Hanukkah. And the first phase was an article recognising Jewish wrestlers who have worked in the WWE over the years. It is possible that the WWE intended to look at even more, but they have only acknowledged 4 so far. They are Goldberg, Colt 'Scotty Goldman' Cabana, Barry Horowitz and Paul Heyman.
Here are some more that the website failed to mention:
Billy Kidman
Kidman is a veteran of the cruiserweight divisions in both WCW and WWE. He is currently working for the WWE as a producer for various broadcasts, particularly RAW. He was briefly married to Torrie Wilson. He has allegedly gained a lot of weight since his in-ring career ended in 2006, a matter which makes him the center point of jokes on the YouTube show 'Are You Serious?'
Tensai
Tensai was previously called Prince Albert, Albert and A-Train during his first run in the WWE. He was re-introduced to the WWE this year as an American wrestler who had adopted a Japanese heritage. He is slowly moving away from the Japanese angle. He caused controversy directly and indirectly this year. His name translates literally as '(Natural) Disaster'. Some Japanese people, including WWE superstar Yoshi Tatsu, felt this was insensitive in respect to the recent earthquake and tsunami in 2011. He also stopped using Tout after posting a message implying that Japanese people always have their eyes closed.
Kelly Kelly
Kelly's father is Jewish. This was kept quiet throughout her WWE tenure, although Matt Stryker occasionally introduced her as "The Hottest Hebrew". Kelly recently dyed her hair brown and is now trying to relaunch her modelling career, as well as launching her own swimwear line.
'Nasty Boy' Brian Knobs
Knobs was one half of the Nasty Boyz. He is also known for being a close friend to Hulk Hogan, having appeared in three different reality shows centered around Hogan. Since the closure of WCW in 2001, he has mainly made appearances for independent shows and conventions centered around wrestling legends. He and Jerry Saggs tried for new runs in both WWE and TNA, but had their contracts cancelled due to their clumsy in-ring style. Knobs has also dabbled in being a wrestling trainer. He blacklisted himself after making jokes about Randy Savage's death so close to the event.
'Nasty Boy' Jerry Sags
Sags was the other half of the Nasty Boyz. After WCW closed down, Sags has kept out of the public eye. He has occassionally joined Sags at fan events and independent shows, but he has not made nearly the same number of appearances that Knobs has done.
Dean Malenko
Malenko helped to revolutionise wrestling with smaller wrestlers. Along with Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, the trio have been directly responcible for selling out WCW, ECW and Japanese promotion events despite not being featured in the main event. He beat stars like Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Undertaker, Kevin Nash and Hollywood Hogan to be recognised the best wrestler of 1997 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's PWI 500. He only wrestled in the WWE for little more than a year before accepting the role of a trainer on the SmackDown brand. He has focused mainly on working with lighter (Crusierweight) wrestlers and Divas.
Marc Mero
Marc Mero initially shot to fame in the NWA and WCW as Johnny B. Badd, a very flamboyant character who encouraged fans and opponents into wondering about his sexuality. He ditched the flamboyant persona in the WWE were he used his real name, and portrayed a chauvinistic boxer. His samoan neckbreaker is now famously known as the TKO after he used it. He was married to Sable during his WWE run. He made himself an outcast in wrestling in 2007 after publicly listing the names of wrestlers who died before the age of 40. (He was attempting to highlight issues faced by wrestlers, but his intentions were misconstrued.
'The Genius' Lanny Poffo
Poffo is the younger brother of Randy Savage. Despite being an in-ring performer, he is better known as a manager to people like Mr. Perfect. He originally had the gimmick that Damien Sandow is using now. His biggest moment in wrestling came when he crowned Savage the King of the Ring.
Raven
Raven had a number of gimmicks in WWE and WCW, usually reducing him to a manager. He got his big break after forming the Raven gimmick. While it did not initially work in WCW, it became a phenomenon in ECW. Since adopting the Raven gimmick, the majority of his matches have permitted the use of weapons. When companies tried to cut down on the use of unprotected head shots with weapons and intentional bleeding, Raven has been very outspoken about keeping the controversial practices. Raven came up with the infamous ECW stunt in which Sandman was tied to a cross. He has also came up with numerous characters which has launched the careers of several ECW alumni, including the Dudley Boyz. He defended the ECW Heavyweight Championship at their first pay-per-view, and is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He holds the record for most WWE Hardcore Championship reigns, winning the title 26 times.
'Macho Man' Randy Savage
Savage is considered to be one of the biggest legends of wrestling who has yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He has main evented 3 WrestleMania pay-per-views, winning the WWE Championship in two of those and defending it in the other. He is also considered to be one of the most innovative villians and high-flyers in WWE history. Despite his large size, Savage used a lot of diving and running grapples and attacks. He has also had a long and succesful stint in WCW. Since the closure of WCW, Savage has stayed out of the ring. He died in May 2011 after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of his SUV. In his last moments, he managed to save the lives of his wife and other road users by directing his SUV into a tree to stop it.
Matt Stryker
Stryker is a former teacher who was forced to resign after using personal and sick days to make wrestling events. He later introduced the teacher gimmick as his main character. Stryker made a bad reputation for himself in the WWE locker room due to his insistence of spending time with wrestlers who were still trying to get signed by the WWE, and ignoring those that already were. He was moved from the SmackDown brand for his own safety after Eddie Guerrero passed away. Guerrero was said to be offended by an encounter with Stryker, and Guerrero's death caused Guerrero's friends JBL and Chris Benoit to become hostile towards him. Stryker has spent the last few years as a colour commentator, backstage interviewer and a host of NXT in it's game show format.
Other Jewish wrestlers include:
* Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo's father Angelo Poffo.
* Dean Malenko's father, Boris Malenko, and Dean's brother, Joe Malenko.
* British wrestler Aviv Maayan.
* ECW Manager and colour commentator Joel Gertner.
