The WWE plans to add several former superstars back onto the roster.
We reported before that the WWE has reached out to stars who have competed on RAW to appear at the 20th Anniversary show in January. But they are now considering some other stars to keep for the long term.
There has always been a feeling of a lack of depth within the roster, but now the WWE realises that it is worse than ever at this time. They have too few big name stars, and several of them have been hurt at the same time. Also, younger stars do not appear to be getting over. The hope is that if veteran stars return, they can help build new stars for the future.
All of the suggested stars are mainly mid-card talent, not multi-time World Champions like Batista or Jeff Hardy. Although no-one has been approached yet.
There is already speculation that Colt Cabana will be asked to return. Cabana has been one of the most succesful wrestlers in Ring Of Honor, the NWA and the independent scene over the last decade. And after his very brief stint as Scotty Goldman in the WWE, Cabana has become an even bigger success. He has had very many supporters within the WWE who were not happy with his release and have been pleading for his return, including CM Punk. And the WWE website curiously hosted a brief video highlighting his short run early this week.
Cabana was released after Vince McMahon was disappointed in a poor match between Goldman and Umaga. McMahon went against the original script and ordered the match to happen again, but this match was not much better. McMahon had high hopes of Umaga becoming a main-eventer and would not accept that Umaga was botching, and chose to blame Goldman for Umaga's poor showing.
