<table><tr><td>Former WWE star defends the Rock

In response to rumors of backstage jealousy and resentment over Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stealing the spotlight at WrestleMania XXVIII, former WWE Superstar Carlito went on Twitter to defend The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment against "the boys."

"My opinion on The Rock is that everybody should be thankful that he's back. Did he come back to save his movie career? Of course, so what? The Rock saved 'Mania last year and this year too. Do any of u see any other wrestler right now that can sell out 'Mania?" he wrote.

"The 'boys' should be happy that 'Mania will be a big success and fans shouldn't even really care as to why Rock is back."

TDK's Take: Just the fact we're still talking about this indicates the hype machine is doing a pretty good job... Old hat though it may be, let me try and sum it up for you this way: Movie Star Money > WWE Travel over 300 days a year. End of story.</td><td>

I don't think they want their jobs back, I think they are just jumping on the chance for some press.

You guys are sooo cynical...

If I posted a story where Lance Storm, Shane Helms and Carlito all swore they saw Rock's dog walking on water, - you'd fill the thread with comments on how Rock's dog can't swim! ^o)

Gregory Helms was a guy who didn't have what it takes to get into the mid-card. He didn't even have what it took to be something in the tag team division. And this is a guy who has held a tag team championship with Kane, a feud with the Rock, and has held at least 10 titles in WCW and WWE. But he didn't have what it took to get into the mid-card.

Carlito was pushed to the moon. He had the skills, but he didn't use them in WWE. He wanted fans to be entertained by him BEFORE he started entertaining them. He insisted on more microphone time, but refused to try and work on his talking skills. In the end, he never looked credible in any division.

Lance Storm, however, is a guy who proved himself. He won titles left, right and centre. He had the microphone skills to connect with / aggrevate the crowd. And he had the skills in the ring. The only thing he didn't have was the height. If he was even bigger, he would have been challenging for the Heavyweight titles.

This is why we find it hard to believe what Carlito and Helms are saying. This is why we were more willing to hear Storm out.

And the Rock doesn 't have a dog!

Just for the sake of discussion:

I won't take issue with your view on Helms, - mostly because I thought his claim about being the best cruiserweight in the world was ridiculous - but all that aside, fact is the guy made it to WWE - which last time I checked is something most never do. If you or I happen to think he's a jerk, so be it, but he has been to the show and does have some knowledge regarding said show.

If you guys are prepared to write off whatever he says based on your perception of whether 'he had what it takes' then - while that is certainly your right - I would consider that to be a little short sighted. Whilst I agree that one should always 'consider the source,' I think you're taking it way too far to say someone who's been in the locker room is no source at all.

The same line of reasoning would also hold for Carlito, although in his case I think we'd likely agree that the talent was there.

As for Storm, I'm pleased to see the respect you afford him, even though it doesn't seem to have helped in overcoming the negative assumption that people are simply 'kissing up' for the sake of jobs.

Not that any of this really matters as I'm mostly replying for the sake of conversation. So take it for what it's worth and hopefully, with a little luck, we can both learn something in the process. Or maybe not... ^o)

PS. Rock's dog does walk on water, but only after an especially thick BP spill... :p

Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to add a basic summation. Essentially the entire previous post can be boiled down to: 'Even an idiot can say something profound.' Fact is, a profound statement remains profound no matter where it comes from.

So yes, by all means consider the source, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater and disregard what may well be a true statement simply because you've already judged the speaker. If the testimony seems rational, cohesive and trustworthy then it probably deserves the benefit of the doubt. [/philosophical rant]...

I've never come down on Shane's in-ring ability, just his personal credibility. After a while of him whining to dirt-sheets I just stopped caring about his input for most situations. Valid point he made? Sure, but then again, it isn't like he's saying something profound that other people hadn't already though of, yet.

I like Carlito, and I wasn't coming down on him, only pointing out that I don't think he was trying to get work anywhere, just a little bit of free press. Who wouldn't, right? It is a very hot topic in the wrestling world.

Yes, they HAVE made it to the show, but then again, so did a lot of people that shouldn't have. Are these two included? Probably not, I think they had the tools to be at WWE, but after so many bad wrestlers have come down the pike from Titan Towers, I think a little bit of second guessing is always healthy. :)
