Heh, I literally made a comment on this somewhere else.

Do 3 year old boys ever watch wrestling with their grandmothers? Do either 3 year olds or grandmothers even watch wrestling?
Targeting wrestling shows to wrestling fans. What a concept. Maybe Vince should try that instead of tying in WWE to Scooby Doo or the Flintstones. Vince McMagma? John Cenastone? Which of WWE’s creative idiots came up with those names while snorting a line of cocaine off the table in the writers room?

I watched Wrestlemania 7 on VCR at that age, Undertaker’s promo with Bearer and the blindfold match still stick with me to this day.
No idea who else was on the show of the top of my head apart from Slaughter and Hogan, shit that had about 10 promos throughout the night to promote it, it seemed.
…but yeah it was with my grandparents, my grandad would shadow box in his seat along with the brawling.
Vince got big because of appealing the kids, elderly and peoples genitals because it was an investment.
From a business prospective would you choose an audience who will be loyal with your product for 10-15 years without thinking to much about it,
Or people who will watch something else if you mess up the show?
People only listen to and keep watching something they understand,
That’s why “kids†films can be watched by anyone worldwide,
Where as “intelligent†films that need a deep knowledge of history, knowing what the director aims for and the ability not to miss a single scene to understand, only gets a few thousand viewings and a few festival awards.
We have our WRESTLING based 3rd show again,
We have want we wanted, as we do every 5 years, be NXT, ECW, Velocity, Heat etc.
Enjoy it.[/quote]
Screw it, I'm adding something on top of that.
To most audience members need to have reason to delve into it.
Fans who have grown to love professional wrestling as wrestling, love the actually matches, the technical side of it.
The thing is, if I was watching a really technical match with my younger self, my younger self would probably tug at my sleeve and mumble
"WHY are they fighting?"
And me now, I might not have an answer to the most technically sound match I'd seen in years.
My younger self used to watch fueds during the attitude era,
To just name a few from the undercard.
Val Venis used to fight because he loved women,
Godfather would advertise his Ho's,
The Dudleys would feud because people would take away their tables,
Hardys would go around protecting women,
The Hollys really wanted to keep his Hardcore title,
Stevie Richards tried to convert people into being less hardcore.
Kaientai and later Low Down wanted to be taken seriously.
We're the matches good? NO, alot of them were shitter then an outhouse, but millions would watch the stories unfold because the characters were entertaining.
I LOVE watching technically sound matches and shoot wrestling,
But if I said I didn't enjoy watching a frantic comedy that is WWE/F wrestling, I'd be lying.
I still hate the discrimination though.
WWE is trying to be a complete product like everyone wanted and people still complain?
Sheesh.
