<table><tr><td>HBK special ref at Mania?

WWE's website released a phone "interview" with Shawn Michaels playing up his role in the Triple H-Undertaker feud that points to future involvement, potentially as special referee at WrestleMania 28.

The angle played out with Michaels "angrily hanging up the phone" after being asked if Hunter beating Taker at Mania would make Hunter better than him. Michaels accused the "media guy" interviewer of trying to drive a wedge between them.

Prior to the exchange, Michaels took a storyline-driven jab at Hunter, saying Taker knew how to appeal to Hunter's ego and press the right buttons to get a Mania match on Raw.</td><td>

Special Referee HBK?</td></tr></table><table><tr><td>TDK's Take:

Oh great... So now if this comes about - and Michaels sides with Taker as special ref - it'll make Hunter's killing of the streak even more epic. Not that I'm against HBK as ref, but does the prize really have to be inflated to match Hunter's ego?</td></tr></table>

I want a Triple threat. Only way the streak could end 20-0. Eventually, Triple H and Shawn would come so close to being able to work together enough to topple Taker, however, their egos would get the better of them.

Double choke slam heard 'round the world.

If it wasn't for the Undertaker, there would be no DeGeneration-X.

Shawn Michaels returned from one of his many retirement's due to injury. He had to referee a match between Bret Hart and Undertaker for the title. Michaels tried to cost Hart the match, but would up making Undertaker lose instead. This started a feud between Undertaker and Michaels that constantly ended in DQ because Triple H get interfering.

The point of the first Hell In A Cell was to keep Triple H, Rick Rude and Chyna out. And this gimmick match could only succeed or bomb. Michaels and Undertaker did what they needed to to make it a smash hit. If I remember correctly, Michaels has only been in 3 HIAC matches in his career. But it became one of Undertaker's signature events. Even though Triple H has been in many more.

The real conflict is not between the Kliq and the one opponent that they could not put away. The real conflict is who is the icon of the HIAC? Is it Undertaker, or is it Triple H? It can't be Shawn Michaels, can it? Now HBK has to be in the ring when the man he respects most and his best friend take the match that he made famous to a new extreme. He has to help someone else make history with the match that HE innovated. Remember, Michaels had his face shredded on the wire mesh before anyone else. Michaels fell off the roof before anyone else. And he won in the HIAC before anyone else.

The question isn't about Shawn Michaels helping Triple H beat their rival. The question is can Shawn allow his former flunky to outdo his entire career?

During the second match (v. HBK), I believe it was nWo Mark I was conversing with, about the entire Kliq / DX trying to cost Undertaker the streak. You can't tell me you wouldn't laugh at Billy Gunn running to the ring way too fast and immediately being thrown out of the ring.
