Hey you guys, I'm new to this server for about 2 days now and I'm so excited to say that I'm gonna be getting a N64, alongside the game WWF No Mercy, very soon! And I'm just here because I am VERY VERY interested in modding. I want to make my own mod with different characters/wrestlers, different venues, a different atmosphere, the whole nine yards.

But I ran into a little problem wanting to do so. I downloaded a "Hackers Starting Kit" not too long ago and I couldn't help but notice that the only thing that I physically saw that I could mod were just moves. I looked all over the kit and I couldn't find anything about textures.

If there's anyone out there who can help me out? I am absolutely in love with the art of modding and I want to become a modder one day, but I don't want to just figure it out because I can't do it right away. Can someone who mods please tell me the basics of texturing and changing the atmosphere of the game, and what I need in order to do that?

Just let me know and I'll get to the reply if anyone does so. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

I somehow skipped reading the first part of your post, texture hacking will work with emulators only and not on the cart. The most you can do with the no mercy cart is do move hacks on the computer and save the codes and put it in game shark to work on the cart. Or if you have an everdrive 64 you can hack vpw2 movesets to the rom and transfer it to the everdrive cart.

Yes with project 64 theres a setting to dump textures in the graphics plugin settings. It dumps whatever is shown on the screen so be sure to know what you want to dump already. Then in photoshop or an image editing program open what was dumped and change it to what you want. Then save it using the same file name but instead of putting it in the textures-save folder you want to put in a folder just called textures. inside the project 64 folder. That new image will overwrite the old image and now show up in game.

I suggest you practice with the menu of the game you want to hack, that way you can test the limitations of texture modding or your own personal limitations before you go off with editing the wrestlers. Once your familiar with it then mess with the wrestlers.

When you get that far you dont usually want to overwrite the main outfits so you edit the wrestler first to have off colors like a yellow and silver jacket, dump that, edit it and then in game it will be what you want.

Theres bumps along the road like getting things precisely to how you want it like importing rey mysterios mask to wm2000 or vpw2.

I suggest you also download and run showdown 64 to see how its done before you try. Look how many files he textured and see if your up for it too.

Hey thanks for the heads up. Plus, you just saved me the trouble of wasting $80 on Amazon when I could've gotten the emulator and game for free on my PC, which I did! And I'm having a blast with it! I'm just gonna wait til I get my controller and I'll be all set.

But I'm still having a bit of trouble with the first step. I've been attempting to dump the textures over and over and nothing appears in any of my folders. I can't be doing anything wrong. I'm using the 2.3 version of Projet64, could it be the different version?

And finally to the wrestlers, then I'm gonna be done; I do't want to seem like I'm asking for too much or bother you. But when I do get to the wrestlers, there's this thing where for certain characters I want to add things that stick out of their figures like horns, spikes and tails and shit like that. I'm not sure if that's the easiest or the hardest thing to do for the characters. And also, do you have any knowledge of when there's 4 characters in one slot, but you can give them different movesets like Showdown 64? (i.e. Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens in the same slot but with very different moves)

That's all I have for now, but if I have anything else, I'll be sure to ring again. Thanks for helping and replying. I'm gonna stay committed with this project and make sure I do it :withflair:

All those questions can be answered by lurking in our tutorials and resources sections.

Check 'em out. We've already laid the groundwork for basically any question.

2.3 sucks. I dislike the pause just to turn it on. I use 2.1.
