Brad Maddox has NOT been released.
The speculation started because Maddox's profile on WWE.com has been moved from the main roster page to the alumni section. This is exactly how fans first learned about the Great Khali being released this week. Also, Joseph Mercury and Jamie Noble have both since been placed in the alumni section. We can now confirm that Maddox, Mercury and Noble are still with the WWE. Maddox's profile had been in the Alumni section for months.
Maddox has been off television since being fired as the onscreen General Manager for the Raw brand. He recently returned at a house show, and did an interview complaining about having been made to stay at home for months. Both of these were put on the WWE website, hinting that he would be making a full-time return. However, Maddox has not been seen since.
Both Mercury and Noble have been working as agents since being written off television in 2010. There was no plans to bring them back as onscreen characters, not even when it happened. Noble and Mercury were written into the script last minute because the WWE wanted two stooge characters who obviously would not be a match for Dean Ambrose. However, the WWE did not count on fans still recognising the pair. Despite staying on television for the last month, there is still no plans for them, and are expected to be done as characters. They will keep their backstage roles.
It should be noted that Dean Malenko, Billy Kidman, Lex Luger, Billy Kidman and Bill DeMott are all on the alumni page even though all of them are still working for the company in a backstage capacity.
The WWE is expected to release more stars soon. Maddox is one guy whose status is at risk. Others at risk include Zack Ryder, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Bo Dallas, Axel Rose, Fandango and Jack Swagger.
