The Undertaker will be back on WWE programming very soon.
The WWE has confirmed Undertaker for shows and appearances after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
There are 2 main reasons for his return. The Undertaker was always expected to return for a match at WrestleMania. He has a famous winning streak, having won all 21 of his WrestleMania matches so far. He will return, like he always does, to begin promoting the match. There are conflicting reports about who Undertaker will be feuding with. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has been trying to book Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar for almost a year. Undertaker has consistently refused to do the match, even though McMahon has been insisting to the Board of Directors and writers that he had agreed to it. Undertaker really did agree to a match 3 weeks ago, but it is not known if he agreed to face Lesnar or not. Undertaker preferred to face a younger star so they can be put over. It is possible that Undertaker changed his mind about facing Lesnar after Lesnar signed on for another year.
The other reason is to help promote the WWE Network. Undertaker is the company's second longest-tenured employee (after McMahon himself), and one of the most iconic stars in WWE history. It makes a great deal of sense for the WWE to use him to help market the Network.
A rumour is that Undertaker is being brought back early to help replace CM Punk. There is no truth to this as Undertaker was always expected to be back by this stage.
A second rumour suggests that Undertaker is back to promote Paul Bearer's induction into the Hall of Fame. William 'Paul Bearer' Moody passed away just before WrestleMania 29. It was far too late to have him inducted into that year's Hall of Fame class. His family agreed to allow him be inducted in a future class. There is no confirmation that he will go in this year. However, the WWE normally likes to add a manager or promoter in every class. No-one has been announced for this vacancy yet, so it is equally possible that Bearer will go in.
At one point, there was a plan to induct both Paul Bearer and Undertaker in the same year. But Undertaker does not want to be inducted himself until he is finished as an in-ring performer.
