It is being rumoured right now that there is major heat on WWE World Champion Randy Orton, but Management are reluctant to punish him.
There are quite a few problems with Orton. A lot of Superstars and Divas are said to be frustrated with the special treatment that Orton is getting. But they are also afraid to speak out in case they put their own jobs in jeopardy.
The WWE quietly made major changes to their Wellness Policy in June. One of the biggest changes was the introduction of the Redemption Program. Any superstar that has 2 Wellness Policy violations may volunteer for the program. It is a form of probation in which the superstar consents to more frequent medical and drug testing. If the Superstar could complete 180 days without another Wellness Policy violation, they would have one of their previous violations removed. The WWE were waiting until someone had completed the program before officially announcing it. Orton was the first person to be put into the program, and did NOT finish it. This means that the WWE must wait longer to do the P.A. stunt with a different lower-tier superstar.
The idea of the program is for the WWE to avoid having to fire top-tier stars. The wellness policy still states that if a superstar gains 3 violations, they would be fired. Orton officially has 2 violations, despite failing 6 times now. Another change is that the WWE does not have to announce any future violations. Randy’s most recent violation was not made official.
There were also plans to have Orton feature heavily in the next season of Total Divas. But Orton broke up with Jojo very soon after being approached about the idea. Many believe that Jojo will be released from the company before the next season begins filming. Jojo has not really featured that much on any WWE programming since the break-up. She has attended every Raw and NXT event, but just has not been used. She has also not been scheduled to attend the performance centre in some time. No one knows what Jojo is supposed to have done wrong, but they feel like she won’t be around much longer. They also feel that this is unfair because Jojo has never gotten on anybody’s bad side, while Cameron and Eva Marie continue to alienate themselves from the locker room.
They also feel that Randy Orton is being rewarded despite being incredibly unprofessional. Orton has openly complained about his employers over Twitter when he did not get something he wanted. While most superstars would at least get a telling off, management has caved to his demands. One demand was to start using the Punt Kick again, which management eventually agreed to. The move was banned because Orton often messed up the move and genuinely injured opponents.
Orton also changes pre-planned routines for matches and underselling opponents. He can also be heard swearing during matches. Orton has also been caught trying to hide obscene gestures and comments directed at audience members. On the night after WrestleMania 29, Orton was caught on camera muttering “F**k off†to the audience. Orton tried to deny this, alleging that he was just breathing heavily because he was tired.
The strange part is, much of management are beginning to realise that Orton is not the big draw that they used to think he is. Every pay-per-view which has had Randy Orton in the main event this year has done poorly, but the WWE always suspected that it was because they were pushing another star too heavily (Daniel Bryan, Big Show and Christian particularly). They are now accepting that Orton was the common link in all of the matches. But they also believe that if Orton left the WWE, another company could profit greatly from having him. Kurt Angle and Dixie Carter have made no secret about wanting Orton in TNA Wrestling.
The current feeling is that management will continue to keep Orton happy, just to make sure he won’t leave and make money for another company.
Additional Note: If this story is true, this will not be the first time that Orton was given a major title when he should have had a Wellness Policy violation. In 2007, it was discovered that nearly 2 dozen WWE employees had been ordering steroids from an offshore company. Those who were still with the WWE were suspended for 30 or 60 days each. Orton had ordered the most steroids from this company, and was immediately put into a main-event feud over the World Championship. He would win the title and defend it at the main event of WrestleMania 24.
