WWE management are said to be unhappy with how the Prime Time Players versus The Wyatt Family match went on Raw this week.
The match and the attack by Wyatt went as scripted. However, management feels that the whole thing looked terrible.
The first part of the match required Luke Harper and Erick Rowan to overpower and beat down Darren Young. But the majority of their offense was little more than clubbing punches and arm strikes. Management were happy with Harper’s performance because he used a few powerful slams to wear down Young as well. But while Harper’s offence looked punishing, Rowan’s looked lazy by comparison.
The match ended after Rowan hit Titus O’Neal with his Lariat finisher. But this was the ONLY offensive move used on O’Neal. It didn’t make sense that this one move could knock out O’Neal for so long as the first hit. The feeling is that he should’ve taken at least a few hits before getting hit by the finisher.
The biggest criticism was on Young for poor selling. He screamed loudly throughout much of the match, even when was performing moves. His screams were excessive for some of the attacks that he was reacting to. Rowan can be seen intentionally slapping Young to discourage him from screaming. His attempts to escape the Wyatts and get a tag were seen as being too comical. As the match progressed, Young clearly took more damage than O’Neal did, but he was considered to have “moved about too quickly†for someone who had taken such a beating. Especially, after he returned to the ring for the post-match attack by Bray Wyatt.
All four men have been have been asked to try and plan out their matches better in future. There is some hope that Bray Wyatt would continue to be a positive influence on Harper and Rowan. They have both improved greatly under Wyatt's teaching. It should be pointed out that Wyatt has a lot of experience for his young age, and is the son of Mike 'Irwin R. Schyster' Rotunda.
Even though Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole pointed out the temporary blackout, there is a feeling that the match was so dull that fans quickly forgot about the lighting error.
