The amount of legitimate stuff is beyond stupid.

It's maddening how much crap is gone. Thankfully, I still have all my own personal work, but I was storing a lot of shit there. So were a lot of people in the No Mercy and SvR community.

I hope karma gets 'em.

I was thinking the same thing myself. It's kind of like throwing the baby out with the bath water. Millions of legit, legal links flushed all because people aren't buying enough DVD's of the latest lame Hollywood release.

If there's copyright infringement involved, whatever happened to removing the offending links? How did we suddenly (evolve?) to obliterating entire domains? And if they can do this without SOPA, what's it gonna be like if they get an even bigger stick?

I think the point he was making, is that youtube has tons of content that is illegal, but no on is touching it.

Someone had to take a fall after SOPA failed.

This shit was started by Wikipedia.... The English version was shut down for 24 hours to protest piracy on the internet.
Now let's face it...all sites will be closed except the torrent ones. Some of them will be closed some of them might not. Some people will find out some other thing for sharing files , movies , games on the net. Just wait for it.
Now i am thinking where could we upload files except from torrent.
For the time being we could do that but not for long.
There has to be some alternative thing.
And what about rapidshare ??

Torrent is forbidden on Zetaboards.

When all the file hosting sites are finally gone, what shall we do then?

If anyone is interested in more of the back story, here's a good link to check out:

Why the feds smashed Megaupload

And a brief excerpt:

Quote:

The MPAA doesn't have any doubts, though. "By all estimates, Megaupload.com is the largest and most active criminally operated website targeting creative content in the world," it said in a statement. "This criminal case, more than two years in development, shows that law enforcement can take strong action to protect American intellectual property stolen through sites housed in the United States."[/quote]

They lost SOPA but they got the number one target on their hit list. As Phil said, the feds tossed them a bone.

so it sounds like employees e-mails are to blame it makes you wonder how long the FBI were watching and waiting for a slip up. now I know why the reward system was scraped a few months ago MU must have known something was coming stupid them.

While I totally disagree with what the feds did, I still can't get over the fact that MU still had servers State side (within easy reach of the FBI). This storm has been brewing for a long time and they seemingly made no effort to get out of the way. It totally blows my mind!
