No Mercy bug

New guy here. I know the best way to avoid that bug is to find one of the revised carts but I can't. So, I'm wondering is there a way to play the game and keep the data from erasing? I have a memory card but something is wrong with it which is how I kept caw's for a long time but now I'm at the mercy of the bug. I've read that as long as you don't do the same match over and over or play the championship with a caw, your game won't erase itself. Anyone know if this is true? Also, I know reinitializing the game pak data doesn't work either.

No mercy cartridge is buggy as shit, I wish I can help but you have to sadly deal with it

Wasn't the bug region caused like the first batch of pal carts?
Maybe play on a gameshark sorry not that familiar and have little knowledge
was just thinking if it is a region problem then maybe a gameshark
could override the region and somewhat fix.
