A nine year drought followed by a thirty-odd second reign and then back to drought. Tough way to make a living.

Not just that. I just really appreciate how hard he's honestly worked through the years. He's always been a guy willing to do whatever the company wanted him to do, and always to me like a genuinely nice guy.

His comedy stuff was always great, it made you want to hug the big-galoot. Holy crap, my spell-check tells me that galoot is a word.

Sweet!

Anyway, considering his age, how much damage has already been done to his body, his pre-existing health condition before even coming into the business... he really is cool. He's gonna be one of those guys that the wrestling world will look back on with very high regards, I think.

It might be more entertaining, but Kelly's definitely easier on the eyes. ;)

So you're the one! ^o)

But seriously I tend to agree...

I'm not sure if it's politics or the old pre-established (non-WWE) star syndrome, but whatever the case, I've always thought he's never gotten due respect in Vince's house.

I think your point about him being an honest worker and doing whatever is asked of him is well taken. In fact I'll take it a step further and say you're bang on when you suggest he'll probably only truly be appreciated after he's gone.

What a difference in the way they've booked him compared with Andre! The latter was regarded as a saint who almost never had to job, whereas Wight is routinely beaten like a drum. For years he was chided for being slow and overweight even though he was simultaneously billed as 'the largest athlete in the world.' Hard to have it both ways, but apparently WWE thinks they can.

It all strikes me as rather shoddy treatment, especially in light of Vince's well-known love affair with big (and often untalented) men.

I guess I'm trying to say the guy deserves a better fate. Especially considering the loyalty and workmanlike effort he's put in. Let's hope he gets a real run before he's done.

Whatever happened to the old days when the eye candy was restricted to managers and valets? Nowadays they get hired for their looks and if they happen to learn how to wrestle (somewhere along the way) well hey - bonus.

Meanwhile the fans get to watch blown spot after blown spot from a bunch of beauty queens who obviously aren't ready for the ring. Oh well, it's the kind of stuff that fits the PG (family entertainment) format perfectly - so sit back and enjoy! :p

I worked for a while training female wrestlers. I quit the role after 3 and a half months. It was sickening seeing talented girls give up every minute of their time to the gym and improving in the ring, just to be enhancement talent.

A lot of the guys got their girlfriends onto the pay roll. They weren't even interested, they just wanted the money. They would not even come and learn how to take a bump onto their backs. And then they would be booked over talented women, just because the guys didn't want their girlfriends getting hurt. A dedicated woman would have 3 matches, and then never be seen again. And then the talented women got the blame for not being able to carry the division. I didn't take long for me to get fed up with that status quo.

I hear ya, though I can't say I've experienced it to the same degree. It kinda reminds me of the all diva season on NXT, when they had the girls involved in hopscotch, bingo and wheelbarrow races, basically anything and everything except activities pertaining to in-ring ability.

It's sort of like getting a baseball tryout and being told to go sell as many hotdogs as you can in 15 minutes. Seems silly to me, but then again Vince is a genius and who am I to assume viewers tuning into a wrestling show might actually want to see wrestling. :p

Nothing quite says Xmas like Torrie and Stacy in an eggnog match. It's female wrestling at its finest, plus it's festively delicious! ^o)

I am not going to criticise your comment TDK.

At No Mercy 2001, Stacy and Torrie had a lingerie match. In spite of their lack of in-ring experience and lack of training, it was a technically sound match. Proving that even the models can put on a good match... if they wanted too.

Or perhaps if they were allowed to...

It's the whole concept of eggnog, lingerie or what have you that I find curious. Rather than allow them to perform on the same platform as the men, more often than not, they're cast in a major gimmick match where they're basically demoted from athlete to mud wrestler status.

If WWE wants to hire exotic dancer/model types and cover them in chocolate, fine. But at least have the decency to call a spade a spade and not pretend it's some sort of meaningful contest in the diva division. :mock:

Yeah!

Even back in 2001 at the invasion PPV. Torrie and Stacy fought against 2 seasoned pro's like Lita and Trish, they held themselfs well. It was a bra and panties match, but was sound!

TNA has the talent in bundles with the womens division, but thanks to those dumbass owners and dicks like Russo, they got rid of D'Amore who was the spearhead for the knockouts, and got them to a great place back in 2007-2008.

What a waste!

Actually, Trish was not a seasoned pro by that stage. She had matches up to a year before, but her training only started that Summer. But Torrie and Stacy did do well.

I agree that a LOT of it has to do with the promoters. I mean, we recently had tag team Women's AND Diva's champions! And most of LayCool's matches ended inside 3 minutes, especially on pay-per-view. Okay, I guess that is great as we didn't have to put up with them for long. For a division and a championship, it was disasterous.

To be honest, I thought that Women's wrestling died the day that Michelle McCool retired the Women's Championship. Thankfully I was wrong. But it has struggled ever since. And bad booking has been the primary reason.
