Its happening folks and there are no preview pics atm, but this is the information about the film..

Release Date
Ridley Scott said the movie will currently be released in late 2011, possibly 2012. In December 2010, it was rumoured that the prequels had been pushed back to 2013 and 2014. This was untrue and was apparently a failed attempt to cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the prequels who would have been busy filming another movie. The prequel is still slated for a 2012 release but there has been no confirmation of this as of yet.

The Director
It was originally announced that Carl Rinsch would be directing the prequel with Ridley Scott producing it. Things stalled for a while and Fox weren’t keen on doing the movie unless Ridley Scott was the director. In July 2009, it was confirmed that Ridley Scott would be directing the prequel.

Cast & Crew
Sigourney Weaver has said she won’t be returning in the prequel. There has been quite a few rumours for the female lead. Noomi Rapace, Gemma Arterton, Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde. Anne Hathaway and James Franco are also rumoured for parts. Apparently, Fox wanted Leonardo DiCaprio for the male lead but he would have been busy filming another movie. H.R. Giger is also working on the prequel according to his wife.

Storyline
Jon Spaihts was hired to write the prequel. In July 2010, it was reported that LOST’s Damon Lindelof had been hired to do rewrites on Spaihts’ script. Ridley Scott spoke about the movie in October 2009 and said that prequel will take place 30 years prior to Alien. In April 2010, Ridley Scott revealed a lot more details about the prequel:

•The film will be set in 2085, 30 years before Alien.
•It will be about the Space Jockey creature that we saw in Alien.
•The Weyland company will be in it and the movie will feature things about terraforming planets.
•He is also planning on re-designing new creatures – earlier versions of what led to the Facehugger and possibly talking to H.R. Giger when things get moving.
•The story will also feature a strong female character.
•The movie will be shot in 3D.
•There are plans for two prequel movies but they will not be shot back-to-back.
•Update 14-Jun-10: Ridley Scott revealed that you’ll find out who the Space Jockey is and where he came from. He also hinted that the Space Jockey isn’t a creature itself, it’s a suit with a being inside.
Rating & Budget
It was revealed in September 2010 that Ridley Scott wanted an 18-certificate movie (Hard R Rating) and a $250M budget but Fox refused. In another report a few weeks later, Damon Lindelof had apparently finished the rewrites on Spaihts’ script cutting large set pieces out and making the script PG13 friendly. In that report, it was stated that Ridley wanted a $150M budget.

Production
Pre-production supposedly started on November 11, 2010 according to visual effects artist Henry South. He stated this on his Twitter account but his account was mysteriously removed straight after that.

Will keep you posted

I think its going ahead, but its just down to getting the right cast. The plot has been confirmed and they have the budget, so lets hope we see the previews in the next year or so. Alien FTW.

I really hope so bro. The only thing that is putting me off is the fact that fox want to make it PG friendly. Now that sucks like hell, and how on earth can we see the best of alien without the aliens exploding out of stomachs, the gruesome fatalities on so on. I see why Ridley Scott wanted it to be 18. Damn fox, none of the kids(No Offence) will get the grasp of the Alien story and how much it means to us older viewers. DAMN FOX!!

Plot details confirmed:-

What's Playing has gotten their hands on what they claim to be the Untitled Alien Prequel script, written by Jon Spaihts with revisions from Lost's Damon Lindelof. Some intriguing details have emerged from this report, with What's Playing citing a story that is a "much deeper, more profound character study" than any other installment in the original Alien franchise.

The supposed plot centers around a friendly group of beings known as "Growers", whom fans will recognize from the original Alien as "space jockeys". This intergalactic group is traveling from civilization to civilization, looking for planets to cultivate and "terraform". They use mind-control to enslave the various different species of whatever planet they're on, and they seem to pose no clue about humanity. One example given from the script details this fact, with the asexual "Growers" forcing two male slaves named Fin and Karik to breed, unaware that there are heterosexual life forms throughout the galaxy. Though, it is unclear how homosexual slave love will be represented in a PG-13 rated movie.

The signature "aliens" of the title don't appear until the second half of the script. The "Growers" have been using these aliens as biological tools in the terraforming process. And they transform and grow into what we're accustomed to seeing in the past sequels as the plot progresses. There will also be new and different alien creatures showcased throughout the prequel. Other characters besides the male slaves Fin and Karik include a spaceship crew featuring an African-American female name Oliver who is reminiscent of Aliens' Vasquez, and a female marine named Turks, a role that is rumored to have been offered to Gemma Arterton.

What's Playing also hints that Ridley Scott has an offer out to Lance Henriksen, but it is unclear if he will be reprising his role as Charles Bishop Weyland.

The validity of What's Playing's script details only comes from the fact that 20th Century Fox "supposedly " asked them to remove their story after it was published. We do not know at this time if what they have stated is accurate, or if any of these story details will eventually wind up in the finished

Insane [/SPOILER]

I think i wet my bed thinking about this. I fucking hope they dont make this a PG-13, it be like doing a WWE and that would suck. I want to see gore, guts, naked women and hell breaking loose. Plus aliens. Sounds like a good plot.

I like this plotm but the PG-13 is putting me off this. I mean Alien was all about gore, and sending chills down your spine. It had a thick plot that made you draw into the characters, and a sense of dont look behind you. Dont get me wrong the plot sounds great, but why are Fox suddenly doing this to this great franchises? They did it to the AvP films?

20th Century Fox has announced via Twitter that director Ridley Scott has scrapped his long awaited Alien prequel, and is instead working on an original science-fiction story. Scott's new film is to be called Prometheus and will star The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actress Noomi Rapace.

Scott directed the original 1979 Alien movie, and he told Deadline that his work developing the aborted prequel had inspired the formulation of the new movie, which he says will be recognisable to fans of the franchise.

He said: "While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognise strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart."

It is reported that screenwriter Jon Spaihts has written the first draft of Prometheus's script, which he then worked on further with former Lost show runner Damon Lindelof.

Lindelof said: "In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley's vision was for this movie. It's daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects. When I sat in a movie theatre as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true."

Rapace will play scientist Elizabeth Shaw, one of five main roles, with the other still to be cast. Deadline goes onto report that Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are being considered for the other major female role, named Vickers.

Fox has also announced Prometheus will be released on March 9, 2012.

Sounds unqiue. BUT...... WE WANT FUCKING ALIEN PREQUEL, NOT A ALTERNATE FILM!! I WANT TO KNOW WHERE THE ALIENS AND JOCKY COME FROM YOU ASSHOLES!!!! AHHHHGGGGG!!! :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Still sounds good though, and hopefully will have the aliens and jockey in it, in some form.

I heard about this a few weeks back. To be honest, Hollywood would have botched it. I bet a comic adaption would be a much better story.

Reports are coming in that Academy Award winner Charlize Theron is in final talks to star in Ridley Scott's the-film-formerly-known-as-the-Alien-prequel Prometheus. Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Michael Fassbender (Jonah Hex) have already signed on.

Although the plot is being kept under wraps, Fassbender recently spilled the beans to MTV.com that it definitely ties into the Alien universe, comparing it in tone to the first movie -- a smaller scaled "thriller" of sorts -- and even letting it slip that yes, there will be aliens. But what type of aliens? Xenomorphs? Space Jockeys? Predators? (Oh please, no.) We may have to wait until Prometheus is released on June 8, 2012, to find out

AND.............................

American film magazine Production Weekly has recently published this synopsis about Prometheus:

“The story takes place in the distant future. There are two superpowers on Earth fighting each other for what’s left of the remaining natural resources spread out across the solar system. One of these superpowers have created and sent a giant terraforming ship to a distant planet called Erix. Their hope is to take this living world and reshape it so that humans can live there.

This enormous terraforming spacecraft lands on Erix, a harsh and uninhabitable planet where it dispenses six smaller mobile units called Crawlers which spread across 125 kilometers of the planet and sow seeds which then terraform the planet. And the name of this terraforming spaceship is…”Prometheus.” The severity of Erix’s indigenous life is notable which are essentially referred to as bio-mechanoid killers. (Offers out to Angelina Jolie & Charlize Theron for Vickers, Michael Fassbender for David, and Gemma Arterton for the role of Truks. / Release date June 8, 2012.)”

Well im glad to see it does tie-in to the original Alien movie. I was concerned it was a totally different type of sci-fi film. Great to hear it will have ALIENS involved.

“Remember how the alien took on canine qualities after gestating in a dog? You may even suppose that the first film’s alien was so recognisably humanoid because it had grown in a human. The same applies here: generation by generation, the creature mutates. As Prometheus begins, the xenomorph is not too recognisable. Sure, it has that alien DNA that Scott and Fassbender teasingly referred to, but it’s missing… well, it’s missing human DNA. Or dog DNA.

All you have to do is imagine how it might look if it were to mix DNA with another alien species… and I think we’re starting to work it all out.

I learned that the film’s setting is, in part, a planet that has been terraformed to create the perfect environment in which a particular bioweapon would prosper. Terraformed deliberately to farm the weapon? I got no clear answer. Is this bioweapon the alien? I got no clear answer. While there was a lot of wheezing and coughing on my end of the phone, there was a good deal of quiet smirking on the other, it seems.”

Sounds pretty interesting to me. Certainly adds up considering Ridley’s comments about “redesigning” the Alien. Thanks to Shasvre

“The Scottish Daily Express reported today that Inverness or Fort William in the Scottish Highlands will be the production base for an August and September shoot. According to the article, other mountainous parts of Europe had been considered but the Scottish Highlands best suited the film’s theme of “grand mythology and the universe” (the relative proximity to Pinewood Studios in England where the rest of the film is shooting wouldn’t have hurt either).”

Perfect setting for this film. Im still hoping we see aliens in some capacity. :)

Scott speaks of Erich von Daniken: “He has guessed right. Millions of years ago, there were intelligent creatures everywhere.” It is a time when HR Giger’s monster didn’t exist. “I have to create something new.”

Now what this means exactly we don’t know but JoBlo took this to mean we’ll actually see millions of years ago. Thanks to Valaquen, BoneSaw and PrometheusAlien for the links.

You can expect a lot of stuff coming out of Twitter for Prometheus. London based visual effects artist Daniel Sidi posted this on his Twitter:

“I spotted some sets and props being built for #Prometheus at Pinewood Studios. Looking good, very old-school sci-fi. Sorry, no photos ;o)”

When asked to elaborate, he said: “hard to be too descriptive, but the phrases ‘giger’, ‘corridors’, ‘intersecting tunnels’ and ‘organic forms’ spring to mind.” Thanks to JayDee and Daz for the tips.
