We reported earlier that the US Title match at Night of Champions may have been called off. It has been. But the reason will be given on this weeK's SmackDown.
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>This week on SmackDown</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">
According to story line, Dolph Ziggler needs to beat US Champion Dean Ambrose in order to get a title shot.
Ziggler become the number one contender despite losing every televised match in the past month. As Ambrose did not issue a challenge, and Ziggler is meant to be in Triple H's bad books, it did not make sense for him to become the number one contender. All publicity for this match has been pulled until it becomes "official".
Generally speaking, when someone beats a champion in a non-title match, they automatically earn a title match. This will be the logic for this story line.
Ziggler had already been announced as the top contender by Michael Cole on 2 different episodes of Raw. </div>
