Quote:

- TNA wrestler Rob Van Dam recently appeared on Joe McDonnell Uncensored and confirmed that his TNA contract expires in March 2013. RVD talked about his future:

"I walked away from every wrestling company I’ve ever worked for, except for one. When I first started out, the first territory I did in the summer of '91 was USWA. It was the Jarretts’. So when my contract runs out with TNA, who even knows if Jeff is one of the bosses anymore, it’s so confusing. But if he is and it’s their decision, if they say, 'Thanks, we enjoyed it’ and we walk off, it’ll be like the only two times in my career (that's happened). Every other time meaning WWE twice, ECW, WCW, All Japan, everywhere – I’ve always been like, ‘All right I’ve had enough.' I felt like I knew when it was time to go. I never had any regrets."

"Right now this could actually be my last gig, I don’t know. When my deal’s up (in March), I don’t even know what I want. People are asking, ‘Oh, are you going to WWE?’ I honestly don’t know what I want to happen. I’m more of go with the flow, let’s see what happens. Anyway, it’s possible that when it’s up that I could maybe not even sign another full-time deal, who knows. It’s possible, which would make this my last full-time gig."[/quote]

Look, RVD has a easy ride in TNA. He lives locally to where Impact is taped and I presume is paid handsomely. He is one of the most laid back wrestlers in the business and lives by his own rules. tbh? I wont miss him if he leaves. He has little to offer wrestling these days and his moveset has been dated for years.

He left WWE twice? I hope he isn't counting either one of those one-off appearances when he was not actually under any termed contract.

AK said a lot of what I wanted to. Van Dam is one of the highest paid guys. In addition to being paid generously for such a light schedule, he has a maximum date clause. Which means that they owe him double for every appearance (regardless of whether or not he makes it onto the main show) he does after the maximum number has been hit. And considering that he is booked for 3 out of every 4 shows, that is a lot.

I think Van Dam realises that he is not the top quy, and he may no longer have what it takes to be the top guy. His moves are stale, and his gimmick is tired and dead. And fans are actually more interested in Jeff Hardy (something that hasn't happened since WrestleMania X-7).

I am not saying that Van Dam is done. But his current marketability almost is. He can revive this by expanding his moves set and expanding his gimmick. And stop bitching about people asking him to adopt a submission hold, something he desparetly needs. Some of Jeff Hardys critics used to complain that Hardy's style was about throwing parts of his anatomy at opponents. The same is true for Van Dam. And his back drop is not that impressive.
