What is the main event for TLC - Tables, Ladders and Chairs?

There seems to be some confusion about what the main event to the ‘TLC – Tables, Ladders and Chairs’ pay-per-view actually is.

It was confirmed that week that WWE Champion Randy Orton will face World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. It has been confirmed that the match will have both titles on the line, and will have some kind of ladder stipulation.

The biggest issue is whether or not the titles will be unified. Triple H has said that having two major titles no longer makes sense now that there is no more brand extension. He also suggested that he wants the titles to be unified. But there is no confirmation that this match will permanently unify both titles.

There is a growing theory that the titles will not be unified. So far, any announcement has indicated that both titles are on the line. This means that the winner of the match would hold both titles. But this does not mean that the titles will be unified, or that one would be retired either. It is possible that the match winner may not even win a new title at all. For example, if Orton takes down the WWE Championship belt, he would win the match and retain the WWE Championship, but would not win the World Championship. This result would have Cena lose the match but retain the title.

The final question is whether this will be a ladder match or a TLC match. This does not make much of a difference as both matches are almost exactly the same. In theory, a TLC match encourages the use of steel chairs and wooden chairs while a ladder match does not. However, as it is impossible to lose either match by disqualification, it does not change the match in any major way. However, the TLC PPV typically has 4 special stipulation matches: a ladder match, a TLC match, a Tables match and a Steel Chair match. If the main event is a TLC match, then another title can be defended in a Ladder match. If the main event is a ladder match, then another match can have TLC rules (a regular match in which weapons are encouraged).

I am sorry but what's the point of all of this if they don't unify the titles? HHH at least in his defence makes sense by unifying the belts.

Royal Rumble will give one wrestler the chance to go for gold and its needs to happen. This sort of match though could have been reserved for Wrestlemania 30. If built well, it could be a big money drawer and enticethre fans to spend big on the PPV.

Probably to prove that Randy Orton and John Cena have nothing to do with the poor pay-per-view buys it has had this year.

Also, TLC normally does badly. Two years ago, they blamed the bad buy rate on CM Punk being champion, even though the main event featured Triple H and Kevin Nash without Punk (noting that Cena was not on it). Then last year, the show did far worse with Cena in the main event, and Punk was left off.

this will still be a boring match and the buyrates will not shine :(
I agree with you for 3 reasons:

1) John Cena is in it.
2) Randy Orton is in it.
3) CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, William Regal, Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt, Goldust, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder, Big Show, Big E Langston, Curtis Axel, Titus O'Neal, Fandango, Sheamus, Christian, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Rey Mysterio, Santino Marella, Wade Barrett, R-Truth and Brodus Clay have been left out of the main event. If even 1 of them was in the final match, it may become watchable.
