How not to do the Shooting Star Press...

OR

If you look up 'nasty landing' in the dictionary, you'd probably find this:

Wrestler Suffers Concussion At IMPACT! Tapings

Mark Haskins suffered a concussion during Saturday's iMPACT! Wrestling tapings in London, England after missing an attempted Shooting Star Press in an X Division Match. He was assisted to the backstage area following the bout.

Haskins say he's okay following the incident. He tweeted, "Heading home after a trip to A&E. Thank you to everyone who was concerned. Minor concussion but I'm all gravy, baby. Safe!"

Here's the vid:

Yeah, Austin was so careless. A simple audible could've saved this man a lot of trouble. This is like a much scaled down version of when Steiner repeated to beat down Sid after his ankle, literally, broke in fucking half!

Austin seemed to roll out of the way, he didn't see the guy botch, I think he was supposed to miss Aries in the first place. He didn't see the impact, he just went home. I bet he feels like an asshole in hindsight. I know I certainly would.

Phil is closest so far. Allow me to explain it all to you. Feel free to re-watch the footage as many times as you need, and it will make sense to you too.

For this to work, pretend that wrestling is real, and you yourself are Austin Aries.

Haskins has two favourite moves. There is the leaping cutter (RKO), and the Shooting Star Press. If he hits the Cutter, you are in trouble. But the SSP is the killer move. If he connects with this, you are done.

You have been giving this newcomer your best, but he keeps surprising you. And he caught you with the cutter. Your body is sore, and you are a little dizzy from having your face driven into the mat. You can see Haskins climbing the ropes. He is going for the SSP, but you are still dizzy. If you get up and stop him, he will still have the advantage, you are still dizzy. And if you rest, he will hit the SSP, and you WILL lose the match.

But what if he misses? Rolling out of the way requires less energy. And if he does not land on you, he will land facedown on the mat with great force. But you have to wait until the last moment. If you move before he dives, he will see you and go back on the offensive. You roll out of the way, and SPLAT, he hit the mat. He has just landed on his face, and now he is dizzier than you were. You can either let him recover, or you can target his weakened head. The brainbuster punishes the head and neck, and does the bridging submission. It is a smart combination of moves at a time that Haskins is particularly prone to them.

But here is the problem. Haskins was meant to land face down. Aries was rolling out of the way, and had his back turned to him when he landed on his face. As far as he knew, there was no botch. He thought that Haskins was just selling the move, which is why he callously attacked the injury.
