To help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the WWE Championship, the WWE has been posting a bunch of lists.
This time, it printed a bunch of facts. You already know most of them. But then there are others that have recently been updated.
1. The youngest Superstar to win the WWE Championship is Brock Lesnar, 24.
2. The longest WWE Championship match was the 1992 Royal Rumble match. The winner of the Royal Rumble (Ric Flair) was automatically awarded the title. The match lasted 62 minutes and 2 seconds. For many years, the record had been incorrectly attributed to the WrestleMania XII main event. This was when the Iron Man match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels lasted just under 62 minutes (including over-time).
3. The shortest title reign belonged to Andre the Giant. Only 45 seconds after winning the title, he sold it to 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase, Sr. But WWE President Jack Tunney would not let this title change stand, so he vacated the title. Andre never regained the title, so the record still stands.
4. The longest gap between WWE title reigns is 3,985 days. It took Bob Backlund 11 years to regain the WWE championship, a record nearly matched by The Rock (3,808 days).
5. The shortest amount of time between WWE debut and winning the WWE Championship is 132 days. Ric Flair achieve the feat when he won the title in the 1992 Royal Rumble. The record had incorrectly been given to Brock Lesnar, who won the title 160 days after his first appearance.
6. The oldest champion is the WWE Chairman himself, Mr. McMahon, 54.
7. As recently revealed, new Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino has had the longest WWE Championship reign. His first title reign lasted 2,369 days (over 6 years). His second title reign lasted 1,237 days (almost 4 years). This meant that he spent a grand total of 3,606 days (nearly 10 years) as champion.
8. The WWE Championship has changed hands 18 times at WrestleMania.
9. The shortest title match(es) lasted 8 seconds. Diesel defeated Bob Backlund to win the title in 1994 to win the title. The article does not acknowledge that Sheamus once successfully defended the title against Zack Ryder in 8 seconds during an episode of Raw in 2011.
10. The WWE Championship changed hands 11 times in 1999 alone. The Rock (3), Mankind (3), Steve Austin (2), Undertaker and Big Show all held the title during that year.
11. John Cena has had the most title runs. His current reign is his 11th time as WWE champion.
12. The WWE Championship has only changed hands twice on episodes of SmackDown. Raw saw 13 title changes.
13. New York state has been the location of 21 title changes. Specifically, 13 have happened in Madison Square Garden.
14. Kane is the first masked wrestler to be WWE Champion. Rey Mysterio is the only other one.
15. The first WrestleMania is the only WrestleMania that did not have a WWE title match.
