The WWE website had printed an article based on urban myths that surrounded the company and some of their stars.

Sadly, the article contained some errors, but I have fixed them.

1. The Rockers were fired in there first year on the WWE roster.

This is true.

The Rockers (Marty Jannetty & Shawn Michaels) officially started with the WWE in 1987. While the duo had a reputation for partying too hard, they tried to be on there best behaviour in their first year in the company.

The duo were pressured into partying with many of the other members of the roster. After a night of heavy drinking, Michaels and Jannetty were thinking about calling it a night. Jimmy Jack Funk dared them to prove that they were not lightweights and party harder. Funk demonstrated his crazy behaviour by eating pieces of broken glass. Out of frustration, Michaels broke a glass over his own head, said, 'Are you satisfied?', and left.

The next night, Funk started a rumour that Michaels and Jannetty had vandlised the entire bar. The word reached Vince McMahon, and he chose to fire them. They would be rehired later in 1988.

2. Vince McMahon convinced Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to join WCW to sabotage the competition.

This is NOT true.

WCW loved to lure WWE's biggest stars into their company with offers of much higher pay. Kevin 'Diesel' Nash was one of their biggest targets. Nash considered the offers, but he did not want to leave his friends behind.

Then in January 1996, Scott 'Razor Ramon' Hall flipped out with Vince McMahon. McMahon wanted to do a storyline in which the obviously gay Goldust became infactuated with Razor Ramon. This was to build up to a major showdown at WrestleMania XII. But Hall was not comfortable with his children seeing another man coming onto their father. When Hall told Nash that he wanted to leave the WWE, Nash returned WCW's call.
As we all know, Hall and Nash formed a revolutionary stable with Hulk Hogan called the nWo. Over time, success went to the heads of all three members. The extra money made it easier for Hall to submit to his addictions, and he became a major pain for WCW management. Nash and Hogan engaged in a lot of backstage politics to protect their positions, and led to some of the worst business decisions that the WCW ever made.

Vince McMahon did not send Hall and Nash to sabotage WCW. This was just something that happened.

3. Andre the Giant drank 156 beers in one sitting.

No one is certain.

Andre's massive size was the result of a brain tumour. Andre was going to keep growing until his heart couldn't handle it any more. Sadly, Andre died long before the medical procedure to remove the tumour was discovered.

Andre was also the single biggest attraction in professional wrestling. The high money and low life expentancy convinced Andre to party on an almost daily basis. His large size allowed him to put away large amounts of alcohol as well as food. No-one knows how much Andre could drink, because anyone who was with him always passed out or went to hospital before Andre was done.

Andre was notorious for competing when drunk. He once drank so much that he literally feel asleep during a match against John Studd.

4. The Hardcore Championship Belt is the WWE Championship that Mr. Perfect broke with a hammer.

Not true, but WWE insists that no one knows.

The WWE Championship belt was broken during an interview with Mr. Perfect in November 1989. This was a story line to introduce a new belt design.

In 1998, Mr. McMahon gave Mankind the Hardcore Championship belt. It was clearly a broken WWE Championship belt with paper and duct tape over it.

But it was not the title belt that Mr. Perfect smashed up. For you see, the center mediallions on both belts were broken in different ways. A replica of the broken belt (in it's broken state) was once made. The Hardcore Championship belt was actually a replica WWE Championship belt, and not an original.

When the title belt broke further in 2002, they used extra items (including a car liscence plate) to keep it together. They would not have done this if the belt was a bigger piece of WWE history.

5. WWE loaned money to ECW to keep them alive.

Sort of true.

Vince McMahon was one of the biggest investors in ECW. Because Heyman owed the biggest financial debt to McMahon, this was the reason why all ECW property was awarded to McMahon.

McMahon did not just invest in the company. He offered help with promoting shows and events. He even sent wrestlers who had potential to tryout with Heyman. WWE once dedicated an episode of Raw to promoting ECW talent. And McMahon even employed Paul Heyman when ECW got into financial difficulties.

6. Bret Hart knew about the Montreal Screw Job in advance.

No. He did not.

7. There were 2 different Ultimate Warriors in WWE.

Not true.

When Warrior returned to the WWE for his second stint, he had a radically different look. His skin appeared darker, and he clearly had more muscle definition. He also had different hair.

No-one knows what caused this physical transformation, but they were both the same man.

8. Randy Savage gave Hulk Hogan a black eye before WrestleMania IX.

Not true.

Hogan famously fought in 2 matches that night. But he had a black eye which was nearly swollen shut before the first one even began. The rumour was that Hogan had a real argument with Savage which led to a fight between them.

In reality, Hogan was in a jet-ski crash shortly before the pay-per-view. His eye had not properly healed up.
