The internet went wild last night after a false report insisted that 4 major indy stars had signed with the WWE. So much so, that the WWE had to release a statement about the rumours.
We will begin with the only part that is actually true. A.J. Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows have all given their notice to NJPW. Within the same hour that the news broke, false reports emerged that all 4 men had signed contracts with WWE. With hundreds of websites posting the news as true, Dave Meltzer even went so far as to give details on the non-existent deals. However, the none of them were able to quote a reputable source. PWI were the only ones who found anybody close to the situation, and they confirmed that there are no WWE deals signed as of right now. The WWE article only acknowledges the rumours and nothing more.
It is not known why these men have asked to end their arrangements with NJPW. Some of them are currently champions that will need to lose or vacate their titles before they joined the WWE anyway. All of the men will be required to fulfill all of their current obligations to NJPW and Ring Of Honor first. Even if NJPW released them immediately, they would have to still wait one extra day before they can sign anything. It is known that Styles has been granted his release from RoH, so he is officially a free agent once he is done with NJPW.
Rumours have indicated that the WWE had been interested in Styles and Anderson before, but no word on if anything serious was suggested.
Styles had a televised tryout match with the WWE before he joined TNA Wrestling. Gallows previously competed in the WWE as Imposter Kane, Festus and Luke Gallows.
UPDATE: A.J. Styles' own agent has confirmed that A.J. has NOT signed any contracts with WWE. Official social media accounts relating to A.J. have been sharing and re-tweeting links that are reporting this denial.
