Right now, insiders describe the WWE as being "in a state of chaos". They cannot determine if things are going badly, or going really well.
Since SummerSlam, the WWE has noticed that fans have been increasingly vocal about the product. But at the same time, viewership and social media activity has steadily increased. Fans are making more of an effort to express their dislike of heel characters, especially Triple H, the McMahons and Randy Orton. They have also shown greater support for many of the faces as well. They cannot tell if fans are genuinely angry about the state of the product, or they are passionately buying into it.
Also, after AJ Lee's "pipe bombshell" two weeks ago, many of the wrestlers are regularly going against the scripts that the writers are producing. They are trying to create their own "pipe bomb shell moments". Performers like Antonio Cesaro is playing to the crowd more often in matches. But most are inserting real comments into their promos, outside interviews and Twitter messages. Although it should be noted that Triple H is viewed as doing this the most.
The general understanding is that this the aftermath of John Cena's injury and Total Divas. Now that Cena is out of action for a few months, there is a chance for new superstars to make names for themselves. But Triple H and Stephanie McMahon or more concerned about putting themselves over. Which is why their projects (Randy Orton, Wyatt Family, Total Divas) are getting more attention. The remaining superstars and Divas wish to prove that they have what it takes to be main-event players.
In theory, this should improve the quality of WWE performances, but it is causing concern for management. It suggests that the roster does not have faith in Triple H and Stephanie being able to guide the company. They do not want the wrestlers to take control of the creative direction of the company.
However, it is equally likely that they are panicking in the face of their current success.
