so not sure is I'm allowed to talk about it on here so apologies in advance if I'm not...

so has anyone else noticed that wwf no mercy and a large amount of other wwe wrestling games have been taken down from cool roms due to copyright claims, can anyone conferrer if this is the case on other sites ? if so, now this is only speculation 2k could be looking to make a re release, or the more cynical side of me could think it's because so many people play NM and mod it into a pretty close to perfect game that they want to force people to buy the newer game eg.that steaming pile of shit that was wwe2k15

Strange! I've heard nothing of this, but I wouldn't be surprised if something like that were happening.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 finally gets translated and now copyright issues.
Odd timing.

Coolrom was blacklisted for my internet provider a few years ago.

Due to the copyright bullshit,
You think we should still upload that project we did that needs editing?
I don't exactly want to broadcast this site with it :/

Yes we can. :) We don't host any illegal downloads here, we only provide links to textures/patches/cheat files.

I am not worried in the slightest.

just an update it seems as if at the moment it is only cool roms, as a few other sites that i have checked all have it available for download, it could just be because Google uses cool roms in it's, pop up description thingy that happens when you search a game, and wwe or 2k have decided to remove it from the site

Sadly, it is legit. By law, there is nothing wrong with what these sites are doing. If you buy a legal copy of a videogame, you can make back-ups. You can't sell or distribute the back-ups. These sites are supplying the back-ups to people who have legal copies of the game but can't make back-ups themselves.

The downside is that people who don't own them can also download them. It is also the same reason why it is so difficult to get Nintendo produced or Sega Team game back-ups.
But what Keson said stands. We don't host games, and we delete any links and members who post them.

i would also like to point out that if a game is not re released , sold or if the company who made the game goes out of business after 10 years it goes under the category of abandonware which means it's a legally grey area, it's not right or wrong

It's illegal. Otherwise the roms would still be up.

Er, like i said, they took down all Nintendo Rom files off their site(Coolrom)
Best moving on to emu paradise because they are still loyal to NM fans
You can also have the right to own a ROM if you have a paid copy of your game
If you emulate something you didn't pay for, then it's illegal

You have the right to CREATE your own backup copies.

You don't have the right to access other people's "backups" online. Seriously. Even ripping most cartridges are illegal still as it violates the terms of agreement with the distributor. It's the same as modifying your PS3, sure, you have the ability to do it, but if Sony finds out, they freakin' sue you.

Just to clarify the "grey area" stuff...

The copyright law relating to video games is the same as for songs. The original creator retains rights for live AND an additional 75 years. The developer retains rights for 50 years. Rights can be sold, which restarts the period of legal ownership. However, the creator and developer (or whoever owns the rights) can renew them as often as they like.

Long story short, if you didn't write-program-develop the whole thing yourself, assume that it is illegal.

Human's are thieving hypocrites.
...I leave it at that otherwise I would go into a long as rant about politics and businesses and such...

But yeah, piracy is bad, almost all of us have pirated something in some way or the other.
Hell most game makers hate things like Gamesharks, where you alter the code and will ban you if do it on a game which is still monitored.

Even the shoot em up series from Lucas Arts, Jedi Knights, which encouraged mods, actively tried to close down it's modding sites and succeeded because the franchise was still alive and the fans of Jedi Knights refused to buy Force Unleashed due to nothing to be gained from it.

A project to restore Vampire Bloodlines on a non broken engine has been stopped 3 different times, even though the original creators (like AKI) even encouraged the team to keep doing it because they wanted their game to be complete as they intended.
The people who currently own the rights to it were and still are against it, so the project is closed down.

Game developers are generally fine with people modding/debugging their games because it completes their dreams and goals for the game.
Game distributors hate modding communities because it takes away from their money making.

We should all be happy 2k brought THQ, rather then people who care more about the money side of it.
