It is being reported that TNA Wrestling have been giving away tickets for tonight's show.
This is normally common practice for large companies if an event does not sell out. They will give away tickets for free to ensure more people are in the arena when the cameras are turned on. But tonight's show is their annual Bound For Glory pay-per-view, the single biggest event on their annual calendar.
TNA were particularly keen on making this year's BFG a huge success, which makes it strange that the event has had very little publicity. Last year's 10th anniversary of BFG was held in the Tokyodome in Japan, collaborating with the local Wrestle-1 organisation. The show had to be pre-taped due to time zone differences, and a minimum of TNA talent attending to save costs. TNA was pressured to use a combination of stars who were well known in Japan, and Wrestle-1 talent who were not so well known in the United States. The event did poorly.
This is yet another embarrassing loss for TNA. For the last 2 years, they have let a high number of major and medium names leave in order to save money. The company also limited their events to mass television tapings and PPV specials. Most PPVs are taped inside a week and feature several un-contracted talents. TNA also changed their contracts to remove downside guarantees, meaning that they are only paid for the specific days that they are booked. On top of this, TNA has confirmed that their television deal with Destination America is to end after just 1 year on the network. These dire facts have convinced talents to seek out better pay. And as big names leave, so do fans.
TNA had planned to build the show around Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy. However, throat surgery and events in Angle's personal life have prevented him from being around to help with build-up. Jeff is unable to compete after suffering a leg injury in a dirt bike accident. Interest has also been hurt with the complete lack of build-up for the event, with half of the matches only being confirmed on Wednesday.
