The WWE has decided to merge the WWE Intercontinental Championship with the WWE United States Championship.

However, they have not decided when this will happen or which title will be retired. Right now, they are more interested in keeping the US championship. But when the Intercontinental Championship was retired in 2002, the WWE faced a laegr backlash from unhappy fans. This forced them to return the belt in 2003.

This is not a sign of the brand extension finally coming to an end. The remaining title would be defended on both Raw and Smackdown, just like the Divas and Tag Team Championships are. And the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships are set to stay.

WWE officials understand that having two separate brands is currently pointless. Now that all superstars can, and do, actively work both brands, there is no need for the brand extension. But Vince McMahon feels that ending the division now would be admitting that the idea did not work.

I rather they have 1 world title and keep both intercontinental and US title. Seems more logical that way, and that they still can keep the brand extension, with US title as SD's main title and Intercontinental as Raw's main title, while the World title be the so called "Champion of both brands"

I would like them to retire the WWE Championship just to see that stupid spinner belt disappear. That, or introduce a new one. I would like to see a return of the Attitude era's belt. Or just use the World Heavyweight Title...but then they would be admitting that WCW had a nicer title belt than the WWF had.

Make it work, big Johnny. People power!

Also, I really don't expect them to retire the spinner belt if they ever merge the world title. It's bling enough to be an "entertainment belt", and the kids loved it. Cash cow, I would say.

Also, the World heavyweight title would never be the main championship for both brands, seeing how WWE keeps downplaying the value of it against the WWE title. It's evident, considering the fact that it has been the opening matches of 2 Wrestlemanias. Not to mention being extremely short matches for a PPV title match, with credible wrestlers in it.

I love this idea so much.

Get rid of the spinner belt. I don't care how much money it makes, the WWE Title shouldn't look like a damn flashy hip-hop toy. Give it a new, current design that actually fits the name "WWE Championship."

Well, I HATE Spinner belt too. To me, it's only acceptable when John Cena first won it and have it as a customized belt like the Smoking Skull belt. But the thing is, we are thinking as fans. WWE's target audience have shifted to the lower age group, and that lower age group brings in profits. If they were to get rid of the bling bling WWE title, god knows how much revenue they would lose.

But at the same time, they are still trying to keep the older age group as fans. which I believe is that is why the World Heavyweight Title still exists, it serves to be a "legit" wrestling title belt in a wrestling organization for the older age group. Anddddd not to mention, revenues generated from selling replica World Heavyweight title belt and what not to these older age groups.

Hmmm. I can actually see why they would rather merge US title and Intercontinental title now instead of merging the Main titles now. But still, as logical as my argument for having just one Main World title, don't expect WWE to follow it if they ever decide to merge any titles.

the idea of brand extension DID work. up until superstars started appearing in the opposite show on a regular basis. it defeated the purpose completely
